HARMAN
|
This is my Harman family, from Sussex. I would be interested to know from where the name "Sargent" originated. Perhaps there was a great patriarch who founded the family, or perhaps there was a female Sargent who ensured the name was perpetuated by her descendants. I have an admittedly distant claim to fame with this family which comes from Martin Coles Harman, my 4th cousin. In 1925 he bought Lundy Island which is a tiny island in the Bristol Channel. Martin Coles Harman was a 'character' who firmly believed that Lundy was a self-governing dominion of the British Empire recognising King George as its head. He printed Lundy stamps and issued Lundy coins with his own head on them.
