James R. McGuire of Chalfont passed away Saturday, June 3, 2006, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was 76. He was the faithful and loving husband of Sylvia (Garges) McGuire for 52 years. Born July 5, 1929, in Culpeper, Va., he was the son of the late Francis Patrick and Grace Lee (Brown) Maguire. Jim would fondly recollect his childhood years spent on Papa's farm. At the age of 15, he joined the Merchant Marines that served the war-torn countries in Europe at the close of World War II. After his maritime adventures, Jim worked for his father-in-law, Harry Garges, as a well driller. He later worked for Herald Contractors before retiring from HC Lawton. Jim was a 33rd degree Mason, belonging to the consistory and LuLu Temple. For many years, he was actively involved in bringing the Shriners Circus to this area. He was also a member of Hilltown Baptist Church. He was a tireless worker, generous to a fault, known for his quick wit, big smile and willingness to lend a hand. He was a special mentor to Mike's friends, John, Steve and Don. In addition to his wife, Sylvia, Jim is survived by his children, J. Dennis McGuire (Judy) of Doylestown, Faith A. Miller (David) of Chalfont and Cindy L. Dick (Charles) of Quakertown; and his eight grandchildren, Michael J. Stack (Justine), Kelly Kingsbury (Ethan), Sean and Sandra Miller, Scott (Morghan) and Kristine Terry, and Charles and Danielle Dick. A great-granddaughter, Alyssa Kingsbury, was a new source of pride and joy. A loving, family-oriented man, Jim spent his Sundays having coffee with his family and calling his many nieces and nephews to "check in" on them. He was preceded in death by a brother, Frank P. Maguire; and two sisters, Florence Stroud and Lea Ann Jimnez. A sister, Margaret V. Bolts (Vance) of Nebraska survives. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewings from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 8, at Scanlin Funeral Home, 175 E. Butler Ave. (Route 202), Chalfont and from 10 a.m. until his funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday at Hilltown Baptist Church, 26 Upper Church and Upper Stump roads, Hilltown. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to the Missionary Fund, c/o Hilltown Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1, Hilltown, PA 18927, would be appreciated. Jimmy really was larger than life. He had a wonderful way of telling stories about everything. Through his stories he made me feel that I had always known all of the people that he talked about.
He told Peggy ( his sister ) that Buck let a good boy go when he put me up for adoption.
Jimmy really did have a good heart and really liked people.
