Notes for Christopher N. Smith (Spouse 1)
Christopher Davies's (born 1861) father, Thomas William Davies, died in 1883. Esther Ann Smith, died July 1906, Maldon, buried 7 July 1906, Maldon (Baptist section). Victorian death registration records her age at death as 69 years, however, cemetery records state 74 years.2 They had 8 children:
o Frederick Thomas Davies - born 1857, Maldon, died 1862, Maldon, buried Maldon 16 May 1862
o Christopher Smith Davies - born 1961, Maldon, married Catherine Deason (see above)
o Eleanor Ann Davies - born 1862, Maldon, died 1928, married Thomas Titus
o Thomas William Davies - born 1865
o Hugh John Davies - born 1867, Maldon, died 1927, Footscray, Melbourne, married Louisa Haywood
o Joseph Henry Davies - born 1869, Maldon, died 1931, Footscray, Melbourne, married Charlotte Constance Carman
o Thomas Davies - born 1871, married Margaret Jane Martin
o Jabez Frank Davies - born 1873, died 21 March 1935, Yarraville, Melbourne, buried 23 March 1935, Footscray cemetery, Footscray, Melbourne, married Elizabeth Jane Stroud.

At the time of their marriage in 1900, Christopher was noted as a bachelor and miner born Maldon, residence Maldon. His father was also noted as a miner. Catherine was noted as a spinster and domestic, born Mount Moliagul, residence Maldon. Her father was noted as a miner. Witnesses were Jabez Davies and Elizabeth Jane Davies (Christopher's brother and his wife).2

Maldon School admission records for April 1907 note Christopher as a miner living in Harker Street and in March 1910 note him again as a miner but this time living in Reef Street. At some time between these dates the family moved to Moliagul where the children attended school.2

Christopher's death certificate in 1937 records his mother's maiden name as “Annester Wilson”. Possibly she had married prior to marrying Christopher's father - Thomas Davies - hence the use of the surnames “Smith” and “Wilson”. Further research required to clarify.2
