| This web page is about the RICHARDSONs of Smeaton and Pencaitland, Haddingtonshire, Scotland. Their father was Robert RICHARDSON (? - 1578), commendator of St Mary's Isle and Lord High Treasurer of Scotland, who was the son of Robert RICHARDSON (? - about 1556), burgess of Jedburgh, Roxburghshire, Scotland. The second son of Sir James of Smeaton (before 1552 - ?), Sir Robert (about 1589 - April 1635), was created Baronet of Novia Scotia on 13th November 1630, (RICHARDSON, later STEWART-RICHARDSON Baronets, of Pencaitland). The following site by Donald Richardson has more on these RICHARDSONs: RICHARDSON Scotland roots http://www.intercom.net/local/richardson/Scotland.html (October 2007). These are more than likely linked to the RICHARDSONs of County Tyrone, Ireland. The main source is Burke's Peerage and Gentry under STEWART-RICHARDSON of PITFOUR. This tree is very much a work in progress and may not be accurate. These records would not have been possible for the help of many contributers. Many thanks to all. I have tried not to include living people born after 1909 and filter by generation for privacy reasons. I am very willing to share my records or receive any additions or alterations. I hope you enjoy these records. Kind regards Rick Smith |
