Church of Monmouth County." There were to be nine trustees, and the names of the first board are therein given, as follows:--"John Little, Jr., Christopher Longstreet, Jonathan Forman, Esq., John Anderson, Esq., James Robinson, John Henderson, Stephen Pangburn, Esq., Robert Imlay, and Tobias Polhemus." This charter is curious and interesting. It stood for the several different Presbyterian churches in Monmouth County, as described therein. For the perpetuation of the board the minister, with the elders and deacons of the several Presbyterian churches were to meet at certain times and places previously agreed on, for the election of new trustees. These several churches were Freehold, Shrewsbury, and Allentown. (See Appendix).

The first of his sons being born after coming to Wwestern Pennsylvania. He bore the name of his father's brother who had been assasinated at Mannahawkin , New Jersey three years before.
He lived three miles west of Ripley , where he died.He and his brother Samuel were volunteer soldiers of the war of 1812 and marched to Lake Erie , but saw no service.With several other members of the family , he went to Brown County , Ohio about 1815. By trade he was a cooper,but became a land owner and followed farming as his occupation.

Isaac learned the mill wright trade with Amos Robbins and followed that occupation for many years.Later he bought the Robbins mill and began operation miklls on his own account,and at the same time carrying on the building business. He built the Walker mill at Elizabeth and many others of the old time mills of Allegheny and Washington Counties. About 1822 he bought and completed the famous Pangburn mill near Lock No. 3 and carried on a very extensive milling and cooperage business there. He built a fine dwelling house there and the declining years of this worthy couple were passed in enjoyment of a justly earned competence.
Mr. and Mrs. Pangburn were among the initial members who organized the Baptist Church at Elizabeth. Mr. Pangburn was one of the first board of Deacons chosen.

Daniel Crane , or Dan as everyone knew him,as a young man worked at the blacksmith trade,but later was a farmer.After the death of Jacob Eckman , they moved to Audobon County , Iowa in 1854,at that time almost bare of settlement.
"Dan" Crane was a unique character and deserves more than a passing notice;about 6 feet tall , finely formed , with laughing blue eyes and a winning smile , he was good to look upon. His geniality and unfailing fund of anecdotes and story , coupled with a dispostion to be convival,made him a welcome guest at hotels and other places of resort. A hotel keeper in Panora , Iowa , said that it was an event when Dan Crane came to town,as a considerable part of the male population would pass the night listening to his drolleries. But when he went home to his high bred wife and bright children,he entered a different atmosphere,then all unseemly levity was displaced by kindly interest. She surely knew his faults but seemed oblivious,at least in the presence of others.
About 1874 , the writer again met them at their westward home; a beautiful old couple , tender and affectionate as in their young and more youthful days , he with snow white hair and no trace of dissipation on his fine face; she without a thread of silver in her wavy black tresses,benignant and lady-like as always.

His early life was spent at the old home near Lock No. 3 , Pa. He enlisted in August 1862 in Co. E , 155th Regiemnt , Penn vol. Inf. and served continuously with his regiment until the lcose of the war. He was one of the detail appointed to receive the parole of Lee's surrendered army at Appomatox. He kept a journal of daily events while in the servie and was an authourity on the history of his regiment which is published .Mr. Pangburn was an active member of the Grand Army and the Union Veteran Legion. After the war , he went to Beaver Falls ,Beaver County , Pa,where he was elected burgess for several terms and was a most respected resident of his town.
