In the name of God Amen. I Etheldred B. Gatling of the County of Gates and State of North Carolina being Sick and Weak of Body of Sound and Disposing Mind and Memory, do make this Instrument of Writing to be and Contain my last Will & Testament In Manner and form following. (To Wit)

Imprimis. I give to my Son John B. Gatling the Tract of Land Called the Long Field Adjoining the lands of Isaac Pipkin, the Heirs of Henry Copeland & others, also my large gun and Blowing Horn to him & his Heirs forever.

Item. I give to my Son Richard B. Gatling the Tract of Land whereon I now live on the North Side of the Beaver Dam Swamp, also my Small Gun to him & his Heirs forever.

Item. It is my Will and desire that the Old Plantation Tract of Land that I purchased of William Gatling, and the Tract of land whereon George Gatling formerly lived Shall be sold by my Executors and the money arising from Such Sale to be Equally Divided amongst my Daughters. Namely, Emily B.Gatling, Martha B. Gatling, Elizabeth B. Gatling, Mary Jane B. Gatling and Harriet B. Gatling, to them & their Heirs forever.

Item. I give to my daughter Elizabeth B. Gatling Two Hundred Dollars to be Raised Out of my Persihable Estate for the purpose of clothing & Educating her to her and her Heirs forever.

Item. I give to my Daughter Mary Jane B. Gatling Two Hundred Dollars to be Raised Out of my Persihable Estate for the purpose of clothing & Educating her to her and her Heirs forever.

Item. I give to my Daughter Harriet B. Gatling Two Hundred Dollars to be Raised Out of my Persihable Estate for the purpose of clothing & Educating her to her and her Heirs forever.

Item. I give all my Negroes to be Equally Divided amongst all my Children. Namely Emila B. Gatling, Marth B. Gatling, John B. Gatling, Elizabeth B. Gatling, Richard B. Gatling, Mary Jane B. Gatling and Harriet B. Gatling to them & their Heirs forever.

Item. It is my Will and desire that all my Perishable Estate of whatsoever Nature or Kind Shall be Sold by my Executors herein after named and the Money arising from such Sale after paying the Legacies (to wit) Two Hundred Dollars to Elizabeth B. Gatling Two Hundred Dollars to Mary Jane B. Gatling and Two Hundred Dollars to Harriot B. Gatling, together with all my Just Debts, I say after Paying The Legacies and my Just Debts the Residue to be Equally Divided amongst all my Children. Namely Emily B. Gatling, Martha B. Gatling, John B. Gatling, Elizabeth B. Gatling, Richard B. Gatling, Mary Jane B. Gatling and Harriot B. Gatling to them & their Heirs forever.

Lastly I nominate and appoint my friends Isaac Pipkin and Lewis Eure my Executors to this my last Will and Testament. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto Set my hand & Seal this 14th day of November in the year of Our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred & Twenty Five.

The last will and Testament of Etheldred B. Gatling dec'd. was exhibited into Court by Lewis Eure one of the executors therein appointed and was proved by the Oath of William Goodman one of the subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded. At the same time the said executor was duly qualified for that Office & prayed an Order for letters testamentary &c.
