Patrick King was born in Trim, County Meath, Ireland in 1831. He worked his passage on a ship from Scotland carrying horses for the Chirnside family of Werribee. He arrived at Point Henry in about 1850 and jumped ship. Nothing is heard of Patrick until the mid 1870's although it is presumed he went to the Ballarat gold fields. In the 1873 Patrick was the tavern keeper at Ballangeich in the Western District of Victoria In 1875 Patrick married Margaret Morris, from Killeigh, Ireland and at least two of their four children were born at Ballangeich. Patrick later built and was licensee of the Tattersall's Hotel in Warrnambool. Unfortunately no photographs remain of either Patrick or Margaret. Patrick and his wife are buried together in the Warrnambool Cemetery. The children of Patrick and Margaret were Peter Sylvester, Patrick, Honora Elena and James Patrick. Patrick married Margaret Gooden in 1901 and James married Julia Gooden in 1908.
