                                                     HERE THEY SLEEP Narrative

Checked out November 2, 1974 by H. A. Dieter, Mrs. Phyllis Hansen and Keith Brewer. The location is 3/4 mile south of Sabin on County Trunk E;  thence 1 mile on a town road to the present Harold Robinson farm, Sec. 23. The plot lies in the extreme NE corner of the original Wm. Ewing 85 acre tract which is joined on the south by another 40 acres on which stands the Ewing residence. The old homestead is accessible from the south by a road leading off of the Pine Valley road, which begins at the Mill Creek exit leading NW off of County Trunk E. The burial site overlooks the valley from the north. It is still well fenced and has an iron lawn gate at the entrance. There presently considerable undergrowth over the area. Three gravestones have fallen while four are still standing, one of the latter being of a more modern pattern of the early 1900's. This was an early family burial ground, begun in 1862.  The last burial was that of Wm. Ewing in 1932. His father Joshua, Sr., took land here in the early 1850's. After his death in 1879 it became the property of his son William. There are eight known burials.
