In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters: Lori Samons, Evelyn Hall, and Annie Mae Miller. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 24, at 2 p.m., at Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, in Martin, with Ronnie Samons and Roy Robinson officiating. Her obituary on 26 May 2003: Irene (Basiey) Samons, age, 69, of Martin, died Thursday, May 22, 2003, at the Prestonsburg Health Care Center. Born January 12, 1934, in Floyd County, she was the daughter of the late William and Gertrude Gillespie Samons. She was a retired waitress and a member of the Church of Christ, (Arkansas Creek), Martin. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Jackie Dalton and Debby Samons of Hippo, and Michael Keith and Kathy Samons, of Harold; brothers, J.R. Samons and Earl Samons, both of Martin; sister, Dorothy Samons of Martin; grandchildren, Dalton Keith Samons, Amanda Ann Samons and Noah Keith Samons; and a great-grandchild, Trey Miles Samons. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Frank Samons, Fred Samons, Aspy (Squire) Samons, and Link Salmons. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, May 25, at 2 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, in Martin, with Ronnie Samons and others officiating. Burial will be in the Samons & Family Cemetery at Hippo under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.

Other survivors include a son, Hershel Hall, of Bevinsville; a daughter, Carol Sue Hall, of West Liberty; a brother, Richard Samons Jr., of Martin; four sisters, Nancy Jean Amburgey, Lori Samons, and Betty Lou Dutton, all of Martin, and Louvnia Samons, of Indiana; and five grandchildren, Keith, Dwayne, Holly, Tina, and Jacob. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Mae Miller, and a grandson, Michael Gene Reynolds. Funeral services were conducted Friday, July 4, at the Joppa Old Regular Baptist Church, at Melvin, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin. Old Regular Baptist ministers officiated. Burial followed in the Buckingham Cemetery, at Bevinsville. Visitation was at the church.
