WATSON

The Watson Family of Rutherford Co. NC is noted for the three brothers who served in the Revolutionary War and saw action at or near the Battle of Kings Mountain on 7 Oct 1780.

There were actually four brothers who made their homes in Rutherford Co. before the opening of the Revolution - Patrick*, John*, William* and George*.  According the Revolutionary War Pension file of William Watson, the mother of the four Watson brothers moved from Pennsylvania and settled in Tryon Co. NC in 1777.  She may have been the Elizabeth Watson listed in the 1790 Rutherford Co. census.

1)  Patrick Watson*
 The best known of the brothers was Patrick Watson, who served as a Major in the local militia and commanded the footmen in the rear of the Battle of Kings Mountain.  Patrick Watson b. York Co. PA on 30 Nov 1751.  He purchased 250 acres of land in Tryon Co. NC on 24 Dec 1778 and was married to Ann ???[Patrick Watson d. 16 Dec 1809; bu. Brittain Presbyterian Cem., Rutherford Co. NC.]

15)+Daniel Watson (b. 1784, d. 1837).

14) Hugh Watson, s/o Patrick Watson and Ann ???, b. cir 1784.  He married his first cousin, Margaret Watson[33], on 16 Dec 1817. 
      Margaret d/o William Watson [3] and Rebecca ROBERTSON.  Margaret was b. cir 1790.  She d. 11 Nov 1851.  Hugh d. 15 Apr 1857.
Three known children.

142) Hugh C. Watson.  [Moved to Marion Co., AR]
143) Rebecca A. Watson.  Married an T. B.  GOFORTH.  [Moved to Marion Co. AR]

15) Daniel Watson
      Daniel Watson, s/o Patrick Watson and Ann ???, b. 2 Aug 1784.  He married Jane LONG.  Jane, b. cir 1792, d/o John Gould LONG and 
      Isabella LONG.[ Isabella, b. 20 Jan, 1772; d. 26 Mar, 1861; [bu. Brittain Pres. Cem., Rutherford, Co., NC]
      Daniel Watson d.  2 Apr 1837.  Jane d. 18 Jan 1848.

152)  John Albert Watson (b. 15 Oct 1815, d. 19 Nov 1894).  Married Ruth A. PORTER [both bu. Brittain Pres. Cem., Rutherford, Co., NC]

153)  Mary Caroline Watson (b. 21 Mar 1818).  Married James M. PORTER.
154)  Patrick Winfield Watson; b. 31 Jul 1820; d. 1857, Prentiss Co., MS;  m. Mary E. McFARLAND, b. 30 Aug 1821, d. 19 Feb 1866;
155)  Isabella Ann Watson (b. 6 Oct 1822).
156)  Sarah Elizabeth Watson (b. 22 Oct 1824, d. 16 Nov 1903).

      John Watson; b. cir 1753.  Served as a Capt. in the Rev. War and saw action at the Battle of Kings Mtn; m. Jane SMART 30 Dec. 1785;
      John d. 19 Jul 1812;  Jane, b. cir 1761; d. 29 Oct 1848, 87 yrs. of age. [both bu.  Brittian Presbyterian Ch. Cem. in Rutherford Co. NC.]

24)  Elizabeth C. Watson (b. 11 Feb 1791, d. 6 Jun 1860; m. James GETTIS 16 Oct 1816.
25)  James Watson (b. 24 Jan 1798, d. 26 Jul 1860, bu. Brittain Pres. Ch. Cemetery);  m. Jane MOORE, d/o John  MOORE, b. January 25, 1762, 
        d. November 12, 1828 & Jane PATTEN(John Moore is buried in the Brittain Pres. Ch. Cemetery)
26)  Isabella "Ibba" Watson.  Married James SIMS on 8 Mar 1819.
27)  Mary Allen Watson (b. cir 1800, d. 1 May 1849).

3) William Watson*
       William Watson, b. York Co. PA, Nov 1758.  He served in the Rev War as a pvt. under his brother, Patrick, Capt.  James GILKEY,
       Col. McDOWELL, Col. HAMPTON and Col. William PORTER  [See Porter (1)].  William later became a Presbyterian Minister and
       was known as Uncle Billy Watson.  He married Rebecca ROBERTSON.  Rebecca d. 9 Dec 1826 and William d. 9 Jan 1854.
Seven children.
31)  James R. Watson b. cir 1785, d. cir 1841
32)  Elizabeth Watson b. 6 Nov, 1787, d. 1 Jan, 1859; m.  Benj. ANDREWS on 5 Jun 1821.
33)  Margaret Watson b. cir 1790, d. 14 Nov 1851; m. her cousin Hugh Watson, son  of Patrick Watson.
34)  Catherine Watson.
35)  Sarah Watson.
36)  Daniel Watson (b. cir 1797).  Married Nancy GOFORTH.
37)  John Watson b. cir 1799, d. 19 Nov 1854).

4)  George Watson*
      George Watson, b. 10 May 1765.  He married Mary MILLER.  Mary was born cir. 1775 . George d. in the 1820’s and Mary d. 29 Jun 1840.
