Co., NC
| Note: Green River Cove, Rutherford Co., was within the area which later became a part of Polk County, NC. There is some confusion about Rutherford Co. and Polk Co. Well, in 1847 Polk was supposed to be formed. There was a good deal of controversy about where the county seat was to be located. It couldn't be decided so the lands belonging to Rutherford and Henderson Counties were returned. It wasn't till January of 1855 that Polk county was formed and ratified. So any of Cynthia's children born before 1855, were actually born in Rutherford Co, NC. If they lived and died in the same area, they would have been buried in Polk, Co. |

MORE NOTES:
1. I have communicated, by phone, with Donald McGraw who is descended from Bazwell [Bazil] and Elizabeth [Duvall] JEFFERSON through Cynthia Ann JEFFERSON
Cynthia Ann Jefferson, b. Feb 23, 1822 possibly in Iredell or Rutherford Co., NC; d. 1895 Spartanburg Co., SC
+Levi Arledge b. 1813, Rutherford Co., NC; d. 1901 Polk area of Rutherford Co., NC
Cynthia is not mentioned in Mareen Duvall's book but she most probably was married and out of the house as Bazil was around 50 years of age by the time he, Elizabeth and the rest of their family left No. Carolina for Forsyth Co., Georgia.2. From: "Mareen Duvall of Middle Plantation" by Harry Wright Newman: Elizabeth (Duvall) Jefferson: She was born about 1804 in North Carolina. About 1819 she married Basil Jefferson, born 1797 in Virginia. At the 1850 census they were domiciled in Forsyth Co., GA., he aged 53 born in VA., and she Elizabeth aged 46 born in NC. The following children were at home, all born in NC: Elizabeth aged 22; Mary aged 20; William aged 16; Francis M. aged 13; Martha A. aged 10; Thelbert aged 9; Sarah aged 6; and Reanzer aged 4. At that time no other Jeffersons nor Duvalls were living in Forsyth County. - pages 553-554. Published by Port City Press, Inc., Baltimore, MD.
3. I believe Cynthia fits into the birth order as the second or possibly third child of Bazil and Elizabeth according to the census information. A boy was first born to Bazil and Elizabeth. Then another boy. Could be the second boy died.
4. Polk County was formed in 1847 from an area of Rutherford and Henderson Counties. There was some controversy and the areas were returned to the parent counties. By 1855, Polk County was formed as originally planned.
