Census

Daniel Jefferson, Jr.  moved to Surry/Iredell Co. area c. 1804 with his 2nd wife Polly Beville

Daniel Jr.  appears:
1810 NC census for Iredell Co., p. 166
1820 NC census for Iredell Co., p. 233[2m<10; 1m-26/45; 2f-10/16; 1f-16/26; 1f-26/45]
1830 NC census for Surry Co., p. 083[1m-5/10; 1m-10/15, 1m-50/60; 1f-20/30; 1f-50/60]

The following are of communications from  Eric Conard , genealogist, Denver, CO

1810 Census, Surry Co, NC
Daniel Jefferson, Males 1-10/16; 1-26/45'; Females 3-0/10; 1-26/45  This would mean Daniel & wife b. bet. 1765 and 1784, a son bet. 1794 and 1800 and 3 daus. bet. 1800-1810

Guessing:  wed abt 1799 son born early 1800, then three girls, 1803-05-08.  BUT, if William is a son, not in census, then marriage about two years earlier.

1820 Census, Iredell Co, NC
Daniel Jefferson, Males, 2-0/10; 1-26/45; Females, 2-10/16; 1-16/26; 1-26/45
This would be in agreement with 1810 IF boy born about 1800 died during the decade and two more boys born.

Basil Jefferson, Male born bet. 1810-20 and bet. 1794-1804 (Basil)
Female between 1794-1804 This would indicate that Basil married, say 1818, and had son about 1819.
We can now compare Daniel's births from the two censuses and conclude that he was born between 1775-84

1830 Census, Surry Co, NC
William Jefferson, male 0/5; 30/40 and females 0/5 and 20/30
This would mean that Wm. married about 1826, children born 1827 and 1829, wife born 1800-1810 and William
born bet 1790 and 1800, could have been hired out in 1810 and subsequent censuses and not appeared with Daniel's family.

Basil Jefferson, male 0/5, male 5/10, male 30/40 (Basil, 1790-1800)
2 females, 0/5, 2 females 5/10 and one, 20/30 (wife, b.  bet 1800-10)

Daniel was not found in the 1830 census, despite the Index reference, as I looked all over, and double-checked.

Hope this helps. Erik Conard--Denver
