Constitution

Alabama Butler County, September the 27th 1846

We a part of the members composing the Consolation Baptist Church of Christ having drawn letters of dismission in  consequence of inconveniences, we do agree to constitute our selves in to a church that shall be known as Massedonia Baptist  Church of Christ. Being regularly Baptized on a confession of our faith in Christ and having a letter of dismission we, viewing  the necessity of having a church constituted for our convenience and also for the purpose of keeping a rule of discipline among
our selves according to the word of God, we have convened together and agree to call on on brethren Fosture, Long and Purifoy, for the purpose of constituting us in to a church on the following declaration of our faith.

Articles of faith

1st We believe in the only true and living God, the Father the Son and the Holy ghost.

2d we believe that God has made known his min?? and will to the children of men in his words which we believe to be of divine authority, and a sufficient and only rule of our faith and practice and contains all things necessary to be known for the salvation  of men and the same is comprehended or contained in the books of the old and new testament.

3d We believe in the doctrine of election and through God chose his people in christ before the foundation of the world.

4th We believe in the doctrine of original sin.

5th We believe in mans incapacity by his own free will and ability to recover himself from the fallen state he is in by nature.

6th We believe that sinners are are justified in the sight of God only by the righteous of Christ inputted to them.

7th We believe that god's elect shall be called, Regenerated and sanctified by the Holy Ghost.

8th We believe that the Saints shall be preserved in grace and fall finally away.

9th We believe that Baptism and the lords supper are ordained of Jesus Christ and that true believers are the  pro.... subjects,  and that immersion is the only Christian Baptism.

10th We believe that as our lord and master washes his disciples feet, we ought also to wash one anothers feet.

11th We believe in the resurrection of the dead and general  Judgment and that joy of the righteous and punishment of the  wicked will be eternal.

12th We believe that no Minster has a right to administer the ordinances of the gospel but one who regularly baptisms called of god and comes under the imposition of the hands of the presbytery.

13th We believe that none but regular baptized per.. have a right to commune together at the lords table.

The Presbytery under written do hereby certify that we perceive and comply with the request of the undersigned named finding them to be in possession of a letter of dismission ............. the consolation church which letter recommends them to be in  fellowship with them, we finding them to be orthodox proceeded ........... them a church by the name of Macedonia Baptist
