Flickinger & Flückiger Family Research: USA                                            back

The key Flickinger research that discusses migrating families is based on Robert E. Flickinger's
1927 book. It is a large volume found in most genealogy library sections with a major collection,
is also available through on-line sources as a compact disk or reprinted book for purchase.
The book is a valuable resource that creates a wonderful framework to study the various lines
that came from Europe in the 1700s and 1800s from the Pfalz, Germany; Alsace, France and
Canton Bern, Switzerland. There are some errors, which is natural, but as researchers work to
share data, the mistakes can be corrected to clarify the family stories and connections.
For example, ancestor Mary Derr (Dare) is not English, but instead, from the Dörr family,
German speakers from the Rhine River area.
DNA studies of male descendants are helping to show which Flickinger and Flückiger families
are closely related biologically, which gives even more knowledge about who is related.
An exciting breakthrough this past year, is the information that 1733 immigrant Ulrich Flickinger,
who came to Bucks Co, PA (Northampton Co/ Lehigh Co) is closely related to 1753 immigrant
Peter Flickinger. They are most likely uncle and nephew, coming from the Lützelflüh area of
Canton Bern, Switzerland.
