Abstract: Personal records of Robert Archelaus Hardaway and
his wife Rebecca Elizabeth (Hurt) Hardaway written in
ALBUM OF PEARLS
(published by J.C. Riker). Entries span the years from
1855-1889.
Includes one letter dated 1924 concerning Major
Hardaway's courage in
battle. Volume contains much information concerning the
1st Regiment of
Va. Light Artillery, including the names, ranks, and
death dates of
soldiers; notes regarding troop movement and
participation in battles
(chiefly in and around Va.); and detailed accounts of
Hardaway's
activities during the Civil War. A few pages provide the
ages, dates of
birth, and financial value of slaves owned by the
Hardaway family.
Genealogical information on the Jarratt, Hardaway, Bibb,
Standfield,
Hurt, Hicks, and Collier families is included. Other
records include
notes on land transactions (including maps of two
plantations in
Bullock and Russell Counties in Alabama); garden and
orchard diagrams
and names of varieties of flowers and fruit trees;
descriptions and
drawings of watches; measurements and estimates for the
building of a
