Our family history which lists the children of James Renne I states his wife's name was Sarah Smith. However, other sources state his wife was Sally Barker.
For now until it is proven the name Sarah Smith has been attached to James Renne II as his wife. Also noted in the children of James Renne I, family history
lists one of his children as named Smith Renne which would also indicate he might have been married to a Sarah Smith and a Sally Barker.

Other early settlers of this locality were Justin Rennie, with his wife and six children, who migrated from Greene County, NY., coming by the way of the Great Lakes to Chicago, thence to Morris, Grundy county, on one of the first packet boats that were run on the Illinois and Michigan Canal, arriving at Morris June 7, 1848. Mrs. Rennie died in 1874, but her husband lived until 1901, when he died at the age of ninety-one years, lacking about four months. Four of their children are still living, Ferdinand, George, Isabelle and Douglas, the last named having been a resident of Vienna Township since 1848. George and Jerome Rennie rallied to the call of President Lincoln in 1860 to 1861, to protect our national emblem, the Stars and Stripes. Jerome Rennie survived until 1884, but died from the effects of ills contracted through exposure during the Civil War. The family underwent hardships incident to the early settlers, but in spite of these the goal they were working for was reached. Justin Rennie was the first supervisor of Vienna under township organization.

19. THOMAS P5 RENNE (JAMES SULLIVAN4, PETER3, JOHN2, JAMES1) was born October 10, 1840 in Clinton County, Illinois. He married EMMA BONNEY, daughter of BENJAMIN BONNEY and EUNICE SIKES. She was born in Berlin, Sangamon Co., Illinois.
Notes for THOMAS P RENNE:
Historical Encyclopedia of Illinois
and History of Sangamon County Volume II

RENNE, Thomas P. - The majority of the soldiers who won victory for the North were young in point of years, although old in patriotism and buoyed up by enthusiasm. Some were not more than lads, others had barely attained their majority, and all were brave and daring, ready to risk like and limb in defense of flag and country. Thomas P. Renne of Springfield, now residing at No. 205 West North Grand Avenue, served a short time during the early part of the war. He was born in Clinton County, Illinois., October 10, 1840, being a son of James S. and Parthenia (Powers) Renne, natives of Pittsfield, Mass., and Arkansas. The father, a carpenter, moved from Clinton County to Ogle County, living there three years and working as a carpenter. He then moved to Sangamon County, where he followed his trade until his death. His home was west of Springfield, and there the mother also died. The father was a guard on the frontier during the Black Hawk War, serving for seven years. The Renne family is of French and Scotch descent, and Mr. Renne inherits the good traits of both nations. He belonged to a family of eleven children, seven sons and four daughters, only three of whom now survive.
Mr. Renne went to school in Clinton County and Springfield, attending the old First Ward School in that city. This was the first school building in Springfield. During his boyhood days he worked on a farm, but when he was twenty-one years old, began learning the trade of a brick mason, and has followed it ever since. For twelve years he was employed by Springfield Iron Works in brick laying parts of their contracts. The last few years he has been engaged in a contracting business. During the period he has been engaged at his trade, Mr. Renne has been employed on many public buildings, as he is regarded as a skilled workman. He enlisted in company M, Seventh Regiment, Illinois Volunteer Infantry, for a ninety days' service, but at the end of thirty days was relieved from service on account of a gunshot wound.
On January 31, 1867, Mr. Renne was married to Emma Bonney, born near Berlin, Sangamon County, daughter of Benjamin and Eunice (Sikes) Bonney, who came from Springfield, Mass., to Springfield, Illinois., and there the father died, August 22, 1865, the mother surviving him, and moving to Kansas City, Kansas. Mr & Mrs. Renne have had three sons and one daughter, two of whom survive: Allen B. was accidentally killed by an automobile near Chicago, April 26, 1909, having been a merchant of Pontiac, Illinois; Charles B. died in infancy; Vernon W. of Chicago; Bertha M., at home. There are three
granddaughters and one grandson in the family. Mr. Renne owns his home, where he has lived for thrity-six years, and takes great pride in it and his surroundings. He is one of the solid, substantial men of the city, and one in whom implicity trust can be placed.
Children of THOMAS RENNE and EMMA BONNEY are:
i. ALLEN B6 RENNE, d. April 26, 1909, Chicago, Illinois.
ii. CHARLES B RENNE, d. Died young.
iii. VERNON W RENNE, m. NELLIE L. DENTON, October 17, 1889, Sangamon, IL.

About 1895 a meteor dropped on their timber land. It cut a deep hole in the bluegrass sod, and caused great excitement. It was about the size of a large hog, gray in color, and similar to granite, though not as hard. James brought it to the house on a sone-boat pulled by a team of horses, where it remained in our yard for years. All over the surface were finger like tips, four or five inches long, all pointing the same way. As time went by, many of the tips were broken off, but it still remained a conversation piece. Later it was taken to the campus at Ames College.

Notes for HIRAM WILSON RENNE:
History of Clark County, Wisconsin pages 340-341
Hiram Wilson Renne, an esteemed citizen of Sherman Township, where he resided for many years, was born in Essex county, NY Sept 12, 1839, son of Henry and Phila (Wilson) Renne, who were farming people. Henry was born in New York state, on the Hudson River, and was a son of John Renne, who came to that location from Canada. Henry's wife, Mrs. Phila Renne, was from Vermont. Hiram W. Renne came to Clark County, Wisconsin when a young man of 20 years, in 1859. At one time he was acquainted with every man in the county without considering that he had a very wide acquaintance. He farmed in the summers, clearing a little land with his brother Charles, who had come here two years before. About 1860 he secured a tract of land of forty acres in section 35, in what is now York Township. There was no road, but a trail which was known as the Stevens Point road passed the place, On this tract, Mr. Renne built a frame house from lumber cut in his brother's mill, and here in 1861 they were joined by their father and mother, living the rest of their lives here. About the same time Hiram W. Renne married Eveline Marsh,
a daughter of Levi Marsh, and together they began to clear their land. Though they began with practically nothing, but their hands, they soon got an ox team and a cow. Mr. Renne got their supplies generally at Weston Rapids, six miles away, carrying them home on his back. In 1885 he moved to Sherman Township, getting a tract of 200 acres in section 29, where he now resides. The place in York Township had been well cleared and improved. The new farm was also improved to some extent and there was an old log house on it. Mr. Renne built a good house and barns and subsequently made further improvements. He helped to estabish the cheese factory in this locality. At times he has served in public office and was clerk of Weston Township soon after coming to Clark County, when that township formed a large part of the county. He has also been chairman of Sherman township one year. When he first came to the county there were but three townships: Levis, Pine Valley, and Weston, and since then he has witnessed many remarkable changes in the development of the county, in the benefits of which he has participated. He has always been a Republican in politics.
