  MacNEAL

MacNeal (or variant spellings), John was born in Paisley, 1802. Emigrated to USA on the ship "Adam Carr " in 1845 with wife (maiden surname believed to be Wilson) and about three young children, to New York. His wife either died on the voyage or shortly after debarking in New York. Was a tailor by trade. By 1853, had settled in Newburgh, NY with children John and Peter. A third child, a daughter, died young. Practiced his trade in Newburgh and died in November, 1874 at age 72. Is buried in St George's Cemetery in Newburgh, the first in a MacNeal family plot there.

   MacNEAL

MacNeal (Jr), John was born in Paisley in December, 1840. Emigrated with his parents, his brother Peter and a sister to New York in 1845, and came to Newburgh, NY with his brother Peter and his father in about 1853. Worked at various apprenticeships in the late 1850's, including a stint with a butcher named Taggert, until June 1862. Joined Company I of the 71st NY State Militia for three months' service with the Union Army in June 1862. After his service, returned to Newburgh and in December, 1863, married Elizabeth Wiseman in Newburgh. She was the daughter of an immigrant from Ahoghill Parish, County Antrim. They had five children in Newburgh between October 1865 and the summer of 1875. Became a successful builder and mason contractor in Newburgh and in Orange County. His wife passed away after childbirth in 1875. Of the five children of John and Elizabeth, one daughter (the youngest) died in 1876. His first wife, Elizabeth and their infant daughter, Elizabeth, are buried in the family plot in Newburgh.  All other children married, but only one, the eldest, Margaret Dunlap, born 1865, had children. She married in 1898 and had one child Robert John Wlison (no relation to the presumed earlier Wilson line)Margaret is/was a grandmother of Robert J. Wilson, Jr. of 100-37 Hope St, Stamford, CT 06906 (e-mail wilso127@yahoo.com. John remarried in the late 1870's, to Frances Cameron in Newburgh. They had one son, born in 1895 in Newburgh. His second wife died in 1916. John died in Newburgh, NY in November 1923, at 82.

 

 

   MacNEAL

MacNeal, Peter - born in Paisley between 1838-1842. Came with his brother, a sister and his father to America in 1845 (see above), and to Newburgh, NY in about 1853. Served in the 79th NY State Militia ("The Scots Guard") during the Civil War. Became a mason/builder in partnership with his brother John in Newburgh for a brief time in the 1870s. Was living in New York City by 1895. He married and was the father of four sons in NY City by 1890.

   McKINLAY / MacKINLAY / McKINLEY

Thomas was b 13 Oct 1886 in Scotland (?).  He married c 1911 (location?) to Mary Peterson b 14 Dec 1885 West Greenock, Scotland (daughter of Peter (Peterson) Pedersen & Susan McQuoid).  Thomas worked on the ship Titanic as a carpenter in Belfast, Ireland where the first child was born.  They came to Ontario, Canada c 1921/1922.   Children: 1. John, b 09 Oct 1912, Belfast, co. Antrim, NIR 2. Mary, b 31 July 1921, Greenock, Scotland.

   McPARLANE

James McParlane married Bridget (nee Scullen) between 1901 & 1905, possibly resided at 48 Eastwood Ave, Shawlands.  Son Thomas James born between 1902-1908.  Seeking any information to confirm marriage to Bridget or birth of Thomas.
