John
Keogh was born about 1830 in Ireland. Listed as a Tailor on his
son's marriage certificate, he arrived in New York in 1854 aboard the
Herman Roosen, where he met and married Mary Ann Boyle who was born
about 1832 in (probably) Ireland. They both died between 1865 and
1875 in USA. John Keogh and Mary Ann Boyle produced: John Keogh
who was orphaned and sent back to Scotland. John Keogh II was born about
1860 in Boston USA. He was married to Julia Stewart
(daughter of Hugh Stewart and Mary Cairney) on 27 Nov 1884 in St. Mary's
Church, Greenock. Intriguingly a Hugh Keogh is named as a witness
on John and Julia's marriage certificate. There were no Hugh Keogh's
listed anywhere on mainland Britain in the 1881 census old enough to be
a witness in 1884. Julia Stewart was born in 1860 in Greenock. She
was a Cook (Domestic Servant) in 1881 in 16 Inverkip Street Greenock, as
a boarder. Birth dates show that Julia had a twin sister, Teresa, who
died in infancy. John Keogh and Julia Stewart had the following
children:
i.
Mary Ann Keogh. She was married to James (Jimmy) Boyle. (have some
lines)
ii
John Keogh III was born in 1887 in Greenock. He was a Shop Boy in
1901 in 22 West
Blackhall St. Greenock. Never married
iii.
Teresa Ann (Tissy) Keogh. She was married to James (Jimmy) Vaughn. (Two
Children known) iv.
Hugh Keogh was born in 1892 in Greenock. He died unmarried in
Greenock.
v.
James Stewart Keogh. He was married to Sarah Devine. (have some lines)
vi.
Margaret Keogh was born in 1896 in Greenock. (may have died young)
vii.
William Joseph Keogh. He was married to Eleanor Fitzgerald. (have
all lines to date)
There
may have been an eighth child, born after William. There is some
evidence that Margaret, the youngest daughter died shortly after the
1901 census. I'm most interested in finding out all other branches from
these lines and if anyone can help with Hugh Keogh the witness thanks in
advance.
