   JEFFREY

William Jeffrey (Warehouse Porter) b. about 1805 in Paisley, Renfrewshire he died on 18 July 1867 in Hutchensontown, Glasgow - his parents according to his death certificate were Alexander Jeffrey (Handloom Weaver) and Jane Lang.       On 23rd January 1824 William married Janet Campbell (daughter of Archibald Campbell and Margaret Brown) - they had the following children born in Abbey, Paisley, Renfrewshire.     Alexander b.1824, Margaret b. 1825, Jean b. 1829 (married Robert McMillan in 1849 in the Gorbals)  Janet b. 1831, died before 1836, Mary b. 1833 (married James Neil in 1854 in Gorbals), Charlotte b. 1834,  (married William Bremner in 1859 in Hutchensontown), Janet b. 1836 (married John Dempster in 1854 in Hutchensontown).     It seems that they then went to the Gorbals district in Glasgow as the following two children were born there - William b. 1840 and Elizabeth b. 1842 (married Andrew Caldwell in 1862 in Tradeston)     Elizabeth married under the name of Louise Jeffrey and is shown as Louise on the birth certificate of her first child Janet Campbell Caldwell but by the 1881 census she had converted back to using Elizabeth as her Christian name.     

Children of Charlotte and William Bremner were Annie b. 1860 in High Church, Jessie Campbell b. 1862 in High Church, James b. 1864 in High Church, William b. 1866 in Central District, James Alexander b. 1869 in Tradeston, Charlotte Jeffrey b. 1873 in Tradeston, and Elizabeth b. 1875 in Glasgow.

Children of Janet and John Dempster were James b. 1855 in Hutchensontown, William Jeffrey b. 1857 in Comrie, Jessie Campbell  b. 1859 in Comrie, Margaret b. 1862 in Comrie, Elizabeth Jeffrey b. 1866 in Hutchensontown, Joanna b. 1868 in Inverkip, John b. Canada and Thomas b. Canada.   

The only children of Jean and Robert McMillan that I have been able to find were  Janet Campbell b. 1850 in Govan and Jemima  b. abt. 1866 in Glasgow.        

And the only children I can find for Elizabeth (Louise) and Andrew Caldwell are Janet Campbell b. 1868 in Hutchensontown and Andrewina b. abt. 1878 in Glasgow.     

Mary and James Neil had the following children.     Janet b. abt. 1855 in Ireland, John b. 1856, Hutchensontown, James b. 1959, Central District Glasgow, (married Mary Jane Hyslop in 1887 in Dennistoun)  Mary b. 1861 in Central District,   William  b. 1863 in Central District, Samuel b. 1866 in Central District, Mary Jeffrey b. 1869 in Central District and Samuel b. 1872 in Springburn.
