Subject: Hello again
I am sending some information I received if you have it just disregard thisemail.
I just wanted to let you know I received your request. Yes I am descended from William and Lydia (Harris) Shay through their son James. I'm not actively researching this line right now (busy with other research pursuits), but am willing to go through my files and share what I have acquired . According to my information, William is the son of Timothy Shay of Voluntown, CT as you indicate. My time is limited at this moment, but the document I have which indicates Timothy is William's father is a guardianship record which was generated at the time of the death of Timothy Shay. I found this in the Connecticut State Library in New Hartford. It reads as follows:
"Register of Probate Records, V.5., 1762-1773, p211
William Shay Guardianship
A court of Probate held in Plainfield in and for the District of Plainfield February 1 day 1763. Present Jabez Fitch Esqr Judg
This Court appoints Mr. Samuel Stewart of Voluntown gardien to and for William Shay a miner son to Mr. Timothy Shay of Voluntown Deceased.
Then Mr. Samuel Stewart ye above sd Gardien appeared in Court and acknow him Self Bound to Jabez Fitch Esqr Judg of sd Court and to his [can't read] in sd office in a [can't read] Bond of L50 Lm faithfully to Discharge ye Trust and office of a gardien to and for William Shay ye above sd miner according to Law and to Count with sd Court for sd miner when Called theirto.
Test Jabez Fitch Jr. Clerk of ye"
There is a second guardianship record for Williams siblings, Timothy Jr. and Mary, which mentions the widow Catherine Shay. Catherine was appointed guardian for her younger children. Other than knowing her name was Catherine, I know nothing more about her.
Mrs. married Timothy Shay [MRIN: 2443].579 (Timothy Shay was born of Voluntown, New London, Connecticut, USA and died before 1 Feb 1763 1254.)
