Lucy Elizabeth Lester

     Lucy Lester was born April 16, 1882 in the family home at 37 Barrow St. St Helens, Lancashire, England to Henry and Mary (Watkins) Lester. After the death of her mother Mary in 1886 Lucy was adopted by Thomas and Maria Brooks however Lucy maintained the Lester surname. The rest of her family immigrated to the United States in 1887 while Lucy stayed in England with the Brooks family. Lucy's stepmother Mary Ellen returned to England in 1900 to bring Lucy and her stepbrother Auther Morley to the United States. They left from the port of Liverpool on July 11, 1900 on the steamship Rhynland of the Red Star Shipping Line with a top speed of 12.5 knots. They arrived in the port of Philadelphia on July 23, 1900 where they gave thier final address as 1618 North 16th St. Harrisburg Pennsylvania. In 1902 Lucy married and her married name became Carr. By 1920 Lucy was a widow working as a helper to a family in Harrisburg, PA she was just 37 years old. Lucy had two sons John W. Carr born abt. 1907 and Robert M. Carr born abt. 1909. In 1930 Lucy was living with her sons in Hershey, PA and worked as a laborer at the cholacate factory.
