Sloop, Slupe, Shlupp Surname Last update = 6 November 2010 |
The intent of the Sloop surname project is to document Sloop descendants via paper trail and DNA. Please refer back to the home page Genealogy by Surname and DNA for basic DNA explanation and testing. If you wish to join the Sloop surname DNA project please use the link Sloop Surname Project.Initially the web site will concern itself with the descendants of Conrad Sloop (Schlupp) thru the first few generations. Conrad's will was written 7 June 1820 (Rowan Will Book H-429) and probated August 1828. In 1995 John Cook and Harald Reksten published an article on Conrad Sloop in the Rowan County Register published by Jo White Linn. This article in PDF format Conrad Sloop An Exploration of Facts and Traditions attempts to provide all the information that was known about Conrad and his children as of 1995. The article explored some of the myths and family legend that has been passed down via the generations. Very little has been found to date to supplement the information in this article. Additionally a set of group sheets using information from my database is provided to provide a quick snapshot of Conrad and his children.I've included a chart Lineage of Malvina Sloop born 1827 showing the ancestors of Malvina Sloop, who is my great great grandmother. A Picture of Malvina Sloop in 1886 also exists. Please be aware that this lineage is not fully proven past Conrad. Should anyone find any errors in the article, lineage, or group sheets please respond to Harald Reksten. In the future this web site will be used to provide links to separate web pages for the children of Conrad Sloop and other Sloops. It is hoped that people will contribute information to be added to the web site so that others can glimpse the wealth of information that exists. The intent is to also provide information on other Sloops in order to prove or disprove relationships. Perhaps this will also help to find Sloop origins in Switzerland, the suspected location where the Sloop surname originated.A family reunion for the Sloops is held every two years on the last Saturday in July. The last one was held in 2010. The reunion is open to anyone with an interest in the Sloop surname. |
