The Public will no Doubt receive, with great Satisfaction, the News of Sir William Johnson safe Return to Fort Johnson, on the 19th of August, from Niagara; where he has been making Peace with many Nations of Indians; in which we can venture to assure our readers, he has succeeded beyond Expectation.
Sir William Johnson, Bart. gives this public Notice, that the following Persons have been delivered up to him by the Indians at the late Congress he held with them at Niagara, and that they are now on their Way to his Excellency General Gage, at New York, where their Friends may apply for them viz.
Benjamin Shepherd, of Connecticut. Abigail Chapman, of New England, but taken at Cushietunk, Pennsylvania. An Infant Child of Abigail Chapman. Sarah Carter, a Girl, taken in Pennsylvania; Elizabeth Carter, her Sister, John Duncan, a Boy, taken at Leckawecksein; Sarah, his Sister, in Pennsylvania.
Ezra Trim, a Boy, taken at the same Place. Peter Up de Graave, and Catherine, his Sister, taken at Cushietunk. Sarah Otter, and Joannah, her Sister, taken near Cushietunk. Abraham Baldwin, a Boy, taken at Wyoming, in Pennsylvania, born in New England. All taken by the Delawares last Year, and delivered up by the Chenussios, who purchased some, and procured the rest from the Delawares.
Sarah Barnet, Lena Barnet, Hose Barnet, taken at Goblintown, Carolina, 7 years ago, by the Shawanese, and delivered up by the Hurons, with whom they long resided.
There are several other Prisoners (some of them related to the foregoing Persons) yet amongst the Delawares and other Nations, who are to be restored very soon; for the Performance of which, the Chenussios have delivered up two of their Chiefs to Sir William Johnston, as Hostages.7
