Valentine Hollingsworth Immigration of the Irish Quakers into Pennsylvania Of Chester County, Pa., and New Castle County, Delaware. Established in 1686.

VALENTINE HOLLINGSWORTH,1 son of Henry Hollingsworth, of Belleniskcrannell, Parish of Segoe, County Armagh, Ireland, and Catharine, his wife, was born at Belleniskcrannel, about the sixth month in the yeare 1632; was married 4 Mo. 7, 1655, to Ann Ree, daughter of Nicholas Ree,2 of Tanderagee, County Armagh, She was born about 1628, at Tanderagee, and died 2 Mo. 1, 1671. He then was married a second time, 4 Mo. 12, 1672, to Ann Calvert, daughter of Thomas Calvert, of Dromgora, Parish of Segoe, County Armagh, and Jane his wife.

A lot of the information about Valentine and his children and grandchildren is from the Hollingsworth Register published for many years by Harry Hollingsworth--starting in April, 1965. Harry was a careful researcher and a Hollingsworth family history guru. He suggests Valentine's parents as Henry and Katheran Hollinworth (sic), both born ca 1600. Valentine and his son Thomas probably came to America on the ship "Antelope" in December, 1682, and settled in Delaware. Another son, Henry, came on the ship "Lion" (sometimes spelled "Lyon") in October, 1683, and settled in Pennsylvania. All were prominently identified with William Penn and his Society of Friends, also known as the Quakers.

In addition to the genealogical report displayed here, another current source of information on this family is a file in the Personal Ancestry Format prepared by Richard Hollingsworth . He has a large data base containing 25,153 individuals and 8,586 marriages in GEDCOM format on floppy disk, as well as a printed booklet. That data is the basis for this report, and reflects the status of the file as of April 24, 1999. The file is expanding every day.

We have an organization established in 1993 called "The Descendants of Valentine Hollingsworth, Sr. Society." The President is Robert S. Coleman . He is also the editor of a quarterly publication called the "Hollingsworth Heritage," which provides news about the Society and recent genealogical research. Members of the Society also share family information via email and annual family reunions.
