RUSSELL CO.,VIRGINIA-LEBANON,VIRGINIA DEED BOOK___P.509 THOMAS STAPLETON and SARAH RUSSELL CO.,VIRGINIA SELLING JUNE 26, 1778 This indenture made the 26th day of June in the year 1798 in the 22nd year of the Commonwealth between Thomas Stapleton and Sarah his wife of Russell County and Commonwealth afore- said of the one part and Robert Duff of the county and Common- wealth aforesaid of the other part witnesseth. That the said Thomas Stapleton and Sarah his wife in consid- eration of the sum of one hundred pounds lawful money of Virginia to them in hand paid by the said Robert Duff at or before the ensealing of these presents the reciept whereof is hereby acknowledged. Have bargained and sold and by these presents do and each of them doth bargain and sell unto the said Robert Duff his heirs and assigns a certain tract or parcel of land containing 40 acres by survey hearing data the ninth day of November one thousand seven hundred and ninety four lying and being in the county of Russell on the waters of Copper Creek and bounded as followeth, to wit Beginning at a white oak and small walnut on the top of a ridge in a line of said Stapletons and with his(cut off at this point) in his proper use of him the said Robert Duff his heirs and assigns forever and the said Thomas Stapleton and Sarah his wife for themselves and his heirs the said tract of land with all and singular the premises and appurtanaces before mentioned unto the said Robert Duff his heirs and assigns free from the claim or claims of the said Thomas Stapleton and Sarah his wife or either of the heir or either their heirs and of all and every person or persons, whatsoever, shall,will, and do warrant and forever defend by these presents and writings whereof the said Thomas Stapleton and Sarah his wife have hereunto set their hands and seals this day and year first above written. his Thomas X Stapleton (seal) mark her Sarah X Stapleton (seal) mark In a court held for Russell County June 26th, 1798 This indenture of bargain and sale of land from Thomas Stapleton and Sarah his wife to Robert Duff was produced in court and ack- nowledged by the said Thomas Stapleton and Sarah his wife being privily examimined as the law directs and therefore was ordered to be recorded.
