Mustered into service September 2, 1861. Reenlisted as a Veteran Volunteer, December 19, 1863, at Camp Reynolds, West Virginia, under General Order No. 191, War Department Series of 1863. Transferred to Company A, 1st- West Virginia, Veteran, Infantry by consolidation of the 5th and 9th Regiments West Virginia Volunteer Infantry. (Thomas Stapleton) has blue eyes, light hair, light complexion, and is 6 feet high. Thomas Stapleton mustered out July 21, 1865.
