CLEARA STAPLETON

Mrs. Cleara Stapleton, 81, well known woman of the
Joes Creek vicinity, died suddenly Wenesday, June 25,
at the home of her son, Douglas Stapleton at Fuget. She
had been in ill health for several months but her death
was unexpected and of a shock to her family.

She was born April 18, 1877, near Relief in Morgan County,
a daughter of the late John Wallace and Nancy Ellen Ferguson
Hill. She had been a resident of the Fuget area for 40 years.

A devout Christian and one of the county's most respected
women, Mrs Stapleton had been a member of the Cold Springs
United Baptist Church for 43 years.

Her first marriage was to Orlando McKenzie and later she married
Green F. Stapleton who died on April 13, 1941.

Surviving are one son, Douglas Stapleton, Fuget; two daughters,
Mrs. Emma Blanton, Staffordsville and Mrs. Alma Davis, Clymer,
New York, also four brothers, Charlie Hill, Relief,Ky., Lloyd
and Estil Hill, both of Red Bush and Roy Hill, London, Ohio,
and one sister,Mrs. Van Williams, Portsmouth,Ohio.

Two sons, Van Escum McKenzie and Charlie McKenzie precede her
in death.

Active pallbearers were her nephews. her grandsons served as
honorary pallbearers.

Funeral services were held at the home of Douglas Stapleton at
10:00 a.m., Friday, June 27, by the Rev. Lonza Reed and the Rev.
J. T. Bailey.

Burial was in the family cemetery on Joes Creek.
