Mrs. Gladys Preston Flannery
72, of Tonawanda NY, a former resident of Ashland,
died at 7 am Friday in Millard Fillmore Hospital,
Buffalo NY, after a long illness. She was born Dec.
6, 1895, at River, Kentucky, a daughter of the late
Isaac Meek Preston and Jemima Spears Preston.
Her family operated the Preston Hotel on Greenup Ave
before she moved to NY in 1932. She was a member of the
Riverside Baptist and attended Christian Fellowship Baptist.
She was the wife of Malcolm G. Flannery SR, formerly of Ashland,
and the widow of William Stewart, a former Independent pressman.
Survivors include a brother, Bryan Preston of Ashland; 3 sisters,
Mrs. Georgia P. Thomas of Ashland, Mrs. Elizabeth P. Healy of Newport
News Va, and Mrs John P. Bailey of White Plains NY; 4 sons,
Preston (Bud) Stewart of Anaheim Ca, Malcolm (Grame) Flannery
JR. , Chicago, Franklin Delano Flannery of Tonawanda, and Paul Ray
Flannery of Washington DC; 5 daughters, Mrs. G.W. (Wilma ‘Billie’)
Cornell and Mrs. Vernon (Jean) Rowe, both of Tonawanda, Mrs Julius
(Betty) Taryos, of Ft. Lauderdale FL, Mrs. Lawrence (Joanne) Lance of
Los Angeles Ca, and Mrs. Russell (Alice) Wentling of Lebanon Pa; 28
grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Funeral serviceswill be conducted at 1;30 pm Tues at Lazear Funeral
Home by the Rev Kenneth Halbrook. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery,
Kentucky. The body will be brought to Lazear Funeral Home, friends may
call after noon Mon. Pallbearerswill be Harold, Bill, and Paul Greene,
Pat Preston, Luther Dickerson and Richard L. Myers.
