Frank “Hylo” Brown
1922-2003
Funeral services were held January 21, at 10 a.m.
at the Richards, Raff & Dunbar Memorial Home in
Springfield, Ohio, for Frank “Hylo”Brown, 80, who died
Friday, January 17, at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield.
Mr. Brown was born April 20, 1922, the son of the late
Frank & Elizabeth VanHoose Brown. He was also preceded
in death by his wife, Elizabeth Brown; a brother, Marvin
Brown; and a sister, Flora Bailey.
He was known nationally and internationally as a bluegrass
balladeer and was memorialized on Johnson County’s Music
Highway 23 sign. He was also a member of the Kentucky Hall
of Fame.
Survivors include one son William Timothy Brown of Springfield;
four daughters, Candy Holley of Jacksonville, Florida, Vicky
Mead of Love Park, Illinois, and Sheila Fay Brown and Mandy
Jane Ward, both of Mechanicsburg; several grandchildren, Jeff &
Kim Holley of Cincinnati, Amy & Mike Crum of Orlando, Florida,
Wendy & David Mullins, of Love Park, Illinois, Amy & Belva Wolf
of Charleston, West Virginia, J.R., Amanda & Jesse Frank Hylo
Brown all of Mechanicsburg; one great-grandson, J. Michael Crum
of Orlando; two step-daughters, Phyllis Lyons of Waverly, Ohio,
and Anna Mary Wilson of Jackson, Ohio; two brothers, Marshall
(and Kathleen) Brown of Springfield and Russell (and Carlene) Brown
of Lexington, Ohio; one sister, Lorraine & Denzel Ross of Lima,
Ohio; a host of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews
and many dear friends.
Services were under the direction of Chaplain Dick McDaniel with
entombment at Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum.
