Charles Stapleton 1784 38 Acres Botatourt Co.,VA PATRICK HENRY Esquire governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia To all whom these presents shall come greeting, Know ye that by virtue and in consideration of part of an exchanging Tresury Warrant number One Hundred and Sixteen and issued the Sixth day of May one Thousand Seven hundred and Eighty four. There is granted by the said Commonwealth unto CHARLES STAPLETON assignee ROBERT McELHENY who was assignee of JAMES HAWKINS, a certain tract or parcel of land containing Thirtyeight acres by survey hearing date of the Ninth day of August one Thousand Seven hundred and Eighty four. Lying and being in the county of Botatourt adjoining his own land on the west side of the waters of the South Fork of Roanoake, and bounded as followeth To Wit, Beginnign at a large white oak and running thence Southeast thirty two poles __? a run to an (several lines here are scratched out) Poplar Spanish oake and dogwood. Thence South- west one hundred and forty poles to and with said run to an Elm and Spanish oak. Thence North twenty degrees West Ten poles to a white oak poplar and hickory. Thence North Thirty six degrees East and one hundred and thirty six poles to the beginning with its appertenances to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land. With its appertenances to the said CHARLES STAPLETON and his heirs forever. In witness whereof the said PATRICK HENRY, Esquire, Governor of the Commonweath of Virginia hath here unto set his hand and caused the Lessor Seal of the said Commomwealth to be affixed at Richmond on the Twenty seventh day of September in the year of our Lord one Thousand Seven Hundred & Eithy five and of the Commonwealth the Tenth.
