My name is
Lisa Carstarphen and I live in Miami, Florida. My family has a book
by Oney Kem Carstarphen titled "The Descendants of Robert Carstarphen".
The book traces the history of the U.S. Carstarphens through 1915.
My branch of the family, which includes the descendants of James
King Carstarphen (listed on this website under "Bits & Pieces")
are included in the book. However, there is a notation which states
that our branch is not related to the Robert Carstarphen family,
but is a separate branch headed by a William Henry Carstarphen who
came to Virginia from Scotland in the early 1800s. My father (who
lives in Charlotte, N.C.) is the fifth William Henry Carstarphen
of this Carstarphen branch. We have traced our family back to the
first William Henry, but the trail stops there. We have no information
about this first William Henry. Any information that we can get
would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Lisa Carstarphen (lisa.carstarphen@applicamail.com)

I am in desparate
need of your help. In searching for mybrick wall Covell family in
Tennessee, I stumbled across a William Covell in Memphis, TN who
married a Daisy (J8) Carstarphen. I have been unable to access any
files for this couple and am requesting any assisstance you may
can give me. I am searching for my great-grandfather Thomas Covell,
born about 1874 in TN but county unknown, parents unknown but census
shows them born in TN also according to Thomas. This William Covell
is the first concrete evidence I have had of any Covells in TN during
my search. William could possible be a brother to my Thomas as SSDI
shows him born 1880. Could youplease give any assisstance at all
on this. I would really be most greatful. Gail

Hi my name is
Essiemariah M. Carstarphen and I am wondering if there is any information
on which Carstarphens were slave owners and in what states were
the plantations or slaves owned? I ask because I know of many Carstarphens
who are brown and seeing as the origin of carstarphen is scottish,
the "assumption" would be that this is a result of slavery.
Please respond. Thank you. You can reach me at PASSION123@webtv.net for now..agai
thanks.

Maybe some of
these folk emigrated and are ancestors of some of your postings.
In the early 1800s there was a great depression in the UK. after
the Napoleonic Wars. The potato famine also affected Scotland so
there was every reason to emigrate then.
Currently I
cannot get back further than Bannatine (or Valentine) Senior but
I'm still trying He was likely born around 1780.
George had 3 children, including my great grandmother, Jane Peddie
CORSTORPHINE, born in Ratho, Midlothian the 21 September 1837, married
John Lawrie LUMSDEN, the 17 July 1857 in Ratho, Midlothian.

Alexander CORSTORPHINE, born in Ratho in 1871.
I knew nothing about this connection until I obtained my grandfather's
Army records recently and traced his parents and grandparents. I
will be very interested to hear from anyone who has anything to
add. The Corstorphine roots are said to be in Fifeshire and there
are many of them on the IGI there. That County is on the North side
of the estuary or Firth of the River Forth. The county on the south
side is Midlothian, where Corstorphine, Ratho, Currie are situated.
