Mary was born on 3 Apr 1858 in Stevens Point, Portage, Wisconsin, died on 2 Feb 1939 in Stevens Point, Portage, Wisconsin, at age 80, and was buried on 4 Feb 1939 in Forest Cemetery, Stevens Point, Portage, Wisconsin.

General Notes: Obituary: SPDJ 3 Feb 1939
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Redfield, 80, a lifelong resident of Stevens Point, who died suddenly Thursday noon at the Portage County Home, will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Boston funeral home. Rev. Bertram L. Davies will officiate and the body will be placed ina receiving vault to await burial in the spring in Forest cemetery. The body is at the funeral home.

Mrs. Redfield, who had been up and abut until her death, complained of not feeling well shortly before noon Thursday to a nurse a the Home, who was talking with her in Mrs. Redfield's room. The nurse offered to bring her lunch to her room, but Mrs. REdfield preferred going to the dining room. The nurse left her room and when Mrs. Redfield did not appear for her meal the nurse went to her room and found she had passed away.

A daughter of the late Frank R. and Mary Houston, Mrs. Redfield was born on April 3, 1858, and had spent her entire life in Stevens Point. She attended the Old White school. Her marriage to Frank A. Redfield took place on September 15, 1880. Mr. Redfield , superintendent of the Wisconsin Central railroad shops, died in 1892.

Arthur was an active Republican during President Cleveland's term
Arthur served in the Commissary, Company D of the 5th Wisconsin Infantry of the Army of the
Patomic during the Civil War.
He was a railway and mail clerk on Wisconsin Central. At age 23 he went to Menasha, Wisconsin, then to Hull and did farming. He did carpentering; was a railway postal clerk, and was in the grocery business. He was a Baptist. His home was at 916 Division Street in Stevens Point, Wisconsin.

Arthur Benjamin Redfield, fifth son of Asahel, was born in Bainbridge, N.Y. on November 3, 1830. He was educated in his home state in public schools and academy. At the age of twenty-three he accompanied his parents to Menasha, Wisconsin. The following year he removed to the town of Hull, Portage County, Wisconsin, where he engaged in farming. He later moved to the primitive settlement of Stevens Point to paractice the calling of carpenter work.

Arthur Benjamin Redfield enlisted in 1864, in Company D, Fifth
Wisconsin Infantry, and served until the close of the Civil War. He served in several important campaigns, and was present at the surrender of Lee at appomattox. He was a charter member of the Stevens Point Post of The Grand Army of the Republic. For twelve years he was a railway postal clerk, which position at that time was appointive, changing with each change in national administration. For a time, he had charge of supplies for the Wisconsin Central Railway, and at one time he was head of the Relief Commission for
Portage County. In later years Mr. Redfield was in the grocery business in Stevens Point.

On March 28, 1855, Artrhur Benjamin Redfield was married to MIss Phebe Otis, who likewise represented a pioneer family of Wisconsin. She was born in Clinton County, New York on August 27, 1837, a daughter of Andre and Experience (Storrs) Otis. Mrs. Redfield's family had come west when Wisconsin was still a territory, settling first in Dane County and subsequently occupying a farm in Burnett County, where Andre Otis died in 1883. Mrs. Otis passed away at the home of her daughter in Stevens Point in 1888,

Arthur Benjamin Redfield died in Stevens Point on July 22, 1911, in his eighty-first year. His wife died on February 6, 1924.

3. Phoebe Storrs Otis, daughter of Andre Otis and Experience "Excy" Storrs, was born on 27 Aug 1837 in Saranac, Clinton, New York and died on 6 Feb 1924 in Stevens Point, Portage County, Wisconsin, at age 86.

General Notes: Obituary:
Mrs. Phoebe Redfield, widow of the late A.B. Redfield and the last of the charter members of the first Baptist church, died on Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the home of her son, Postmaster Alfred E. Redfield, 411 Dixon street.

It is probable that the death of Mrs. Redfield removes the oldest continuous resident of Portage county, as she came here when a girl of 16 years and for 70 years had lived in this city or vicinity. Phoebe Otis, the maiden name of the deceased, was born at Saranac, Clinton county, New York, Aug. 27, 1837. In 1853 the family came to what ws th;en regarded as the far west, reaching Stevens Point early that fall and she was married here the following March to Arthur B. Redfield. Their home for a brief time was on the present site of the Fred G. Kuhl residence property, at Main and Prentice streets. Mr. and Mrs. Redfield later moving to Jordan and residing there some five or six years. Shortly after Civil was was declared Mr. REdfield enlisted for service and at the close of that struggle again joined his family in Stevens Point, they having returned here in the meantime.

Since coming back from Jordan the family home had been at Division and Dixon streets, which residence property was erected more than 65 years ago.

Phoebe married Arthur Benjamin Redfield on 28 Mar 1855.

4. Asahel Redfield, son of Jared Redfield and Sybil Smith, was born on 4 May 1792 in Killingworth, Middlesex, Connecticut and died on 7 Dec 1858 in Menasha, Winebago, Wisconsin, at age 66.

General Notes: Asahel Redfield, second son of Jared, was a farmer by occupation. He spent the early part of his life in Bainbridge, NY. He was married there on February 7, 1817 to Amillison Olin, who was born on February 7, 1797. About 1853 he journeyed with his family to Wisconsin, there to make his future home, and to assist in settling that newly created state. The Redfields settled on a farm near Menasha. On December 7, 1858, Asahel Redfield was found dead in his bed, after retiring the night before in an apparent good state of health.

After Mr. Redfield's death his widow made her home alternately with her two sons Jared and Joel, who occupied farms in Waupaca, Wisconsin, often visiting her two other sons Arthur Benjamin and John Henry of Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Mrs. Redfield died at Waupaca on October 5, 1878, at the age of 81 years.

Mrs. Redfield died at Waupaca on October 5, 1878, at the age of 81 years.

Mrs. Amilison Redfield, relict of Asahel Redfield, died at the house of one of her sons in Waupaca, last Saturday. Mrs. Redfield was born in Bainbridge, Chenango County, New York, February 7th, 1797, and consequently at the time of her death was aged 81 years, 7 months and 27 days. She came to this state in 1853, and for the last twenty years and more has made it her home with her sons John and A.B. Redfield of this city, though usually making a visit of two or three months each year with J.S. and J.C Redfield, two other sons who reside at Waupaca. About three months ago she went to live with J.S. at Waupaca and was there when summoned to the other side. Mrs. Redfield was the mother of twelve children, eight of whom survive to mourn her loss. In the passing away of this venerable lady the Presbyterian church, of which she has been a member for upwards of sixty years, has lost one of its most worthy communicants, and all who knew her, the example of a consistent, christian life.

8. Jared Redfield, son of Levi Redfield and Sybil Wilcox, was born on 12 Feb 1766 in Killingworth, Middlesex, Connecticut and died on 1 May 1814 in Bainbridge, Chenango, (Otsego), NY, at age 48.

General Notes:
Jared was a farmer and a blacksmith.

Jared Redfield, eldest son of Levi, was a farmer and blacksmith. He was married i 1789 to Sybil Smith, who was born January 17, 1769. He removed from Killingworth to Bainbridge, Chenango County, N.Y. and was one of the first settlers of that place.

Jared died suddenly on May l, 1814, at the age of 48, while on his return from a rafting expedition. His widow died on February 22, 1844

Levi and Jared came from Connecticut about 1791 (History of Chenago Co." by Smith, p. 164). Jared was a member of the church in Bainbaridge, serving as a trustee in 1798. He was a farmer and blacksmith. ("Redfield Gen. by John H. Redfield, 1860, p. 35). Jared while returning from Baltimore where he had been with a load of lumber.

Jared married Sybil Smith in 1789 in Battleboro, Windham, Vermont.

16. Levi Redfield, son of Theophilis Redfield Jr. and Mary Buell, was born on 17 Aug 1745 in Killingworth, Middlesex, Connecticut, died on 15 Sep 1838 in Bainbridge, Chenango, New York, at age 93, and was buried in Otego, NY Otsego County.

General Notes: Levi Redfield: At the outbreak of the Revolutionary War, he joined Samuel Gate's company
6th regiment commanded by Col. Samuel Parsons. He was in the seige of Boston, a brigade
drum major. Later he became a singing master to Vermont..

Levi Redfield, third son of Theophilus, Jr., enlisted in 1762, at the age of seventeen, in the Connecticut regiment under the command of Colonel Putnam. His elder brother, Nathan, was also a member of this unit, which was destined to cooperate with the British army and fleet in an attack upon the Spanish possessions in the West Indies. the Connecticut forces consisted of 1,000 men, to which were added 800 men from New York and 500 from New Jersey, the whole comanneded by General Lyman. The expedition sailed from New York in June 1762. Off the coast of Cuba a storm dispersed the fleet, and the transport which carried Col. Putnam and 500 men was wrecked upon an uninhabited key. They were rescued in time to reach Havana and render essential aid in the siege of the city. The regular forces had been engaged in the siege for some weeks, and were worn down from fatigue and sickness. Levi's brother, Nathan, died from fever on the homeward voyage, and he himself suffered from disease. After Levi's return, he devoted himself to instruction in sacred music.

At the outbreak of the Revolution, Levi Redfield joined Captain Samuel Gate's company, which formed part of the sixth regiment comanded by Colonel Samuel H. Parsons. This regiment served at the seige of Boston in General spencer's brigade. He served during the war as brigade drum major.

After the war, Levi resumed the profession of singing master. He removed to Vermont in 1786, living mostly at Brattleboro, though traveling often to other parts of the state in the exercise of his vocation. He afterwards removed to Otsego County, New York, and hence to Bainbridge, N>Y>, where he died on September 15, 1838, aged 93 years. His wife Syble died in Killingworth on JUly 3, 1827, at the age of 81.

State Papers at Hartford, Revolutionary War, Vol. l. The Redfield family was well represented in this company; besides Levi there were Ambrose Redfield, corporal, Simeon Redfield corporal, Phillip Redfield and Elias Redfield, privates.

Levi Redfield is buried in the old Cemetery in Otego, New York, where his body was taken fllowing his death in Bainbridge where several of his sons had settled. A War Department memorial describing his Revolutionary War Service was didicated by member of the Wisconsin Branch of the Killingworth tribe at a reunion in Bainbridge in 1972.

General Notes: BIOGRAPHY: Theophilus Redfield was the oldest son of James. He was born in 1682 and settled in Killingworth, Connecticut. He married Priscillsa Grinnell, aged 17, December 24, 1706. She was the daughter of Daniel Grinnell who came from Seaconnet (Little Compton) Killingworth, which is now called Clinton.
He was known as Sargeant Redfield. He died February 14, 1759; his grave stone is still standing in the old yard about a mile and a half south of Chestnut Hill, North Killingworth, Connecticut. His wife is buried in Clinton near the Congregational Church.

General Notes: BIOGRAPHY: William Redfield (Redfin, Redfyn, Redfyne) Probably French Huguenot - came from England about 1630. In 1639 he occupied a house and four acres of land on the south side of Charles River, Mass. about sixmiles from Boston. It was on the northwesterly corner of what is now Brighton ( near the present railroad station of Brighton. Later he became one of the early settlers of Pequot, now New London, Connecticut. In 1653 his name occurs in connection with Johnathan Brewster, son of elder William Brewster, who obtained title of lane from Uncas, the Mohegan chief, and conveyed to William Redfin May 29, 1654, ten acres of land; here he built a house and fenced it in.
