Notes: Johan "Georg" RICKERT dropped his first name and went by the name
"Georg," although his friends referred to him as "Jurry." His trade
was that of a blacksmith.
About 1795, Georg moved his family from Haynersville, New York to Putnam,
Washington Co., New York. He acquired a large tract of land on a hill
above and northwest of the village of Putnam, Washington County, New York.
This hill became known as "Rickert's Hill."
The family built a log house on Rickert's Hill which remained in the family
for its life span.
Georg RICKERT was chosen as Supervisor of Highways in 1805, and built
the first road in the area running from Lake George to the village of
Ticonderoga, New York. The place on Lake George where the road started
became known as "Rickert's Landing." The family also had their own
private cemetery on Rickert's Hill.
They lived in the Middleburg area until 1789, when they moved to Canajoharie,
New York together with Catherine's parents and his brother, John RICKERT.
They are all found living there in 1815.
On 1 Jan 1792, Georg RICKERT entered into an agreement with Jacob FORBUS
of Canajoharie to take over a house and land at the old Indian Castle [now
in the town of Danube, near the Minden line], under lease from Judge Jacob
G. KLOCK and his brother, George G. KLOCK. In June 1792, FORBUS was
still in possession of the property, and Georg RICKERT filed suit against
him for breach of contract [Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas, Document
#5040].
The names of their heirs are provided by the estate of Catherine's brother,
