Little Betty Lee, the 8 month old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Klyne Rector of Marshall, passed away at the Fort Sanders hospital at Knoxville, Tennessee at 6:30 a.m. Friday, May 22, 1931 where she had been taken for an operation for Spinal Bifida, dilitation of the heart being cause of the death. The operation was performed at noon Thursday, May 21.
Funeral services were conducted at the home of her grandparents. Dr. and Mrs. W. A. Sams, of Marshall, at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, Mary 23, the services being in charge of Rev. S.C. Weatherly, pastor of the Marshall Methodist church. Interment followed in the Sams family plot in the Redmon cemetery. Pallbearers were: Messrs. Jim Redmon, Fred Sprinkle, Hubert Edwards, John Worth McDevitt, Leslie Davis and Lankford Storey.
Little Betty Lee is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Klyne Rector, and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Nanney and Dr. and Mrs. W. A. Sams.
In response to a long-distance telephone call, Dr. Sams and Mr. Rector went to the bedside of the child late Thursday night, arriving about three hours before the death. Mrs. Rector being already present.
Among the out-of-town attendants at the funeral were: Dr. Sam's mother, two brothers, four and four sisters of Erwin and Flag Pond, Tenn.
