This deed made this 19th day of August 1885, by JAMES P. RECTOR and wife JANE RECTOR of Madison County, and State of North Carolina of the first part to HANCE RECTOR of Madison County, and State of North Carolina, of the second part. Witnesseth that said JAMES P. RECTOR and wife, in consideration of one hundred and twenty dollars, to them paid by HANCE RECTOR, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged has bargained and sold and by these presents doth bargain, sell and convey to said HANCE RECTOR and his heirs, all the right, title, interest and estate of the party of the first part in and to a tract of land in Madison County, State of North Carolina, adjoining the lands of JAMES P. RECTOR, JOSEPH RECTOR, and ROBERT B. ROBERTS and others, bounded as follows, viz: Beginning on a small black pine and a persimmon bush, thence south sixty five degrees west one and a half poles to a stake on the top of the ridge, thence north thirty eight degrees west thirty five poles to a stake, thence north thirty five degrees west ten poles to a white pine and stake, thence west twenty five poles to a stake on JOSEPH RECTOR'S line, thence south and with his line sixty eight poles to R.B ROBERTS corner, thence south eighty degrees east thirty six poles to a small dogwood, thence ten degrees west twenty two poles to the beginning, containing twelve and a half acres of land more or less. To have and to hold the aforesaid tract of land and all privleges and appurtenances thereto belonging, to the said HANCE RECTOR, his heirs and assigns, to his only use and behoof forever. And the said JAMES P. RECTOR and wife covenants that they seized of said premises in fee, and have right to convey the same in fee simple; that the same are free and clear from all incumbances, and that they will warrant and defend the said title to the same against the claims of all persons whatsoever. In testimony whereof, the said JAMES P. RECTOR and JANE RECTOR has hereunto set their hands and seals, the day and year above written.



I, BARNETT FREEMAN, Justice of the Peace, do hereby certify that JAMES P. RECTOR and JANE RECTOR his wife, personally appeared before me this day, and acknowledged the due execution of the within deed of conveyance, and the said JANE RECTOR, being by me privately examined, seperate and apart from her said husband, touching her voluntary execution of the same, doth state that she signed the same freely and voluntarily without fear or compulsion of her said husband, or any other person, and that she doth still voluntarily assent thereto. Witness my hand and private seal, this 26th day of December A.D. 1885.

The foregoing certificate of BARNETT FORTNER, a Justice of the Peace of Madison County, is adjudged to be in due form and according to law. Therefore let the same, with this certificate be registered this 28th day of December 1885.
