Know ye that we for and in consideration of the sum of five dollars for every hundred acres hereby granted paid into this Treasury by ELIHU RECTOR hath given and granted and by these presents do give and grant unto the said ELIHU RECTOR a tract of land containing one hundred acres lying and being in the County of Buncombe on the waters of Byles Branch joing the land of RUPEL SHOEMAKER. Beginning on a beach on SHOEMAKER'S line, thence north fifty two degrees east fifty poles to a small hickory, thence south seventy five degrees east one hundred poles to a black oak near the top of the mountain, thence south one hundred and sixteen poles to a hickory on JOEL RECTOR JUN'S line, thence with his line north thirty five west nineteen poles to a small dogwood his corner, thence with his line south seventy six degrees west forty poles to a stake, thence north seventy three degrees west one hundred and forty poles to a stake on SHOEMAKER'S line, thence with his line north forty poles to the begining. Entered the 31st of October 1836 as by the plat hereunto annexed doth appear together with all wooods, waters, mines, minerals, hereditaments and appurtenances to the deed land belonging or appertaining. To hold to the said ELIHU RECTOR his heirs and assigns forever yielding and paying to as such sums of money yearly or otherwise as our General Assembly from time to time may direct provided always that the said Grantee shall cause this grant to be registered in the register's office of our said County of Buncombe within twelve months from the date thereof otherwise the same shall be void. In testimony whereof we have caused these our letters to be made patent and our great seal to be hereunto affixed. Witness: EDWARD B. DUDLEY, Esquire our Governor, Captain, General and Commander in Chief at Raleigh the 8th day of December in the 63rd year of our Independence and in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty eight.
