My first known ancestor in the Hance family is John Hance Sr. born in South Carolina about 1777. It is not known at this time who his parents were. John was married to Rachel Daulphin Laight. He lived in Jefferson County, Tennessee from 1812 to 1845 and died in Pulaski County, Missouri in June of 1846.
His son John Hance Jr. was married to Catharine Rinehart, daughter of Michael Rinehart and Leah Harris of Virginia. They had at least two children, Calvin and Malinda, according to the 1850 census records of Jefferson County. It is also believed that Joseph Rhoten Hance was also their son. By the 1880 census Catherine had died and John was remarried to a Hariet, last name unknown. They had two sons, Proser and Aaron W. Hance.
Calvin Hance was my Great-Great-Grandfather who married Mary, last name unknown. They had 14 children of whom 10 were still living by the 1900 census of Jefferson County. Calvin was already deceased by this time.
There are still a lot of information to be gathered on this family. I hope on time to fill in some of the gaps. In the meantime, Happy Hunting!
