William H. Stewart

(1813 - 1889)

William H. is listed in the 1850 Scott County census as being a 37 year old farmer, married to his wife, 36 year old Sally [Dorton]. Their children include Allen W. (16), Mary E. (15), Hannah M. (13), Jeremiah L. (11), William H. (5), and John Martin (2). Robert H. was born in 1853.

Another researcher sent the following in 1996: "Mother's notes list the wife of William H. Stewart as being Sally... John Martin's wife was Louisa Davidson. I have her obituary which I found in mother's scrapbook. It reported that she was buried in Glencoe Cemetery [NORTON, WISE CO., VA]."

John Martin's Death Certificate is registered in Wise County, Richmond District, Big Stone Gap. It lists John's parents as Wm. Stewart, born in Scott Co., VA and Sallie Dorton also born in Scott County

Scott County will books 2 and 3 contain the Sale of Bill and Inventory for James Stewart, William's father. William H. and his mother Mary are listed as administrators. William H., his mother and brothers, receive most of the items from James's estate.
