Note: ........................................................... . .......... ....

"Chesley Enterprise," June 26th, 1890: Mooresburg- We are soory to have to say that we are going to loos e our merchant Mr. Culbertson, as Mr. Moore has accepted a n offer from another party for the property. If Mr. Culber tson leaves us now he will leave behind many friends, he ha s been among us but a very shore time and in that time he h as succeeded in gaining many friends.

"The Chesley Enterprise," Nov. 24, 1892: Mooresburg- The old horse that fell over the bridge into the rive r has died. Had Mr. Moore delayed billing the council for d amages he might have had pay for the injured animal. Mr. W. J. Moore has introduced something new in the sa w mill line in the shape of a single machine that works i n a horizontal position. It is much more speedy than the o ld fashioned saw for shingle cutting. He deserves credit f or the enterprise. Mr. S. Fenton Jr. has added to the number of building s in our village by erecting a new home stable and drivin g shed. W. J. Moore was the contractor and R. Moore did th e work. All we now lack of having the place incorporated i s additional inhabitants and houses for them to live in.

O n this occasion 28 relatives assembled and then all relatio ns were not present. These Xmas reunions at some relative' s house forms a pleasant chapter in the chronicles of the M oore family.

"The Chesley Enterprise," Apr. 12, 1894: Mooresburg- Mr. Moore has arrived with his drive. He had to blas t quite a number of logs in order to get them down the rive r. At the raising of a very large barn at Mr. Moniesky's t here were quite a number of narrow escapes from being hurt . It being dark before it was more than half lifted up, i t became very dangerous. Mr. W. J. Moore, while placing a p lank across the corner, missed his footing and fell a dista nce of about 12 feet getting badly scratched about the hand s and face. Fortunately no bones were broken, but he was b adly shaken up.

"The Chesley Enterprise," Dec. 20, 1894: Mooresburg- W. J. Moore claims to have the best watch in the burg . He lost it in the stable about 14 mos. ago and when he fo und it the other day it was still going.

"The Chesley Enterprise," Feb. 1895: Mooresburg- William Moore, Jr. met with a severe accident. While r olling logs he got his foot severely jammed between two log s. He was laid up for a couple of hours.

Moore, of Naco, Alberta. The late Mr . Moore was born in Acton, Ont., on the 24th of June in 185 0. About 55 years ago he moved to Mooresburg with his pare nts and with his brothers started a saw mill there. He an d his brothers operated the saw mill for some years and h e eventually became the sole owner. The Moores were one o f the first families to settle in and around Mooresburg, an d being in charge of the first post office in that vicinity , the settlement was accordingly named Mooresburg. Deceased operated the saw mill in Mooresburg for over 4 0 years alone and finally moved to Chesley. After residin g in Chesley for about two years he moved to the west, wher e he lived up to the time of his death. The late Mr. Moore was a member of the Sullivan Counci l for 8 years, being a councillor for consecutive years an d reeve of the township for the following two years and too k a very active aprt in municipal affairs. He had a large c ircle of friends and acquaintances in the township. Many o f the old neighbors and friends of the 8th concession of Su llivan attended the funeral on Saturday. He was predeceased by his wife in 1923, and by one daug hter, Annie, in 1928. Two children also died when quite yo ung. He leaves to mourn his loss, two sons and one daughter , A. W. Moore of Lanfine, Alberta; Dr. S. H. Moore of Anero id, Sask.; and May, (Mrs. Mewhal,) of Naco, Alberta. He al so is survived by two brothers and one sister, Edward of Sp eers, Sask., Samuel of Kisbey, Sask., and Mrs. Thos. McComb , Williamsford. Among the out-of-town relatives who attended the funera l were: Mrs. S. Hooper of Owen Sound, a niece, Mr. T. J. Mo ore of Wiarton, a nephew and Mr. A. J. Wallace of Barrie , a nephew and Mr. W. Miller, of Lucknow, also a nephew, Mr . and Mrs. G. Stoddart of Chesley, are also relatives of th e deceased. A large number of the friends and neighbors o f the 8th concession of Sullivan, attending the funeral, al so Mrs. N. M. Montgomery and her two daughters, Kathleen an d Flora of Tara. Rev. A. Hubband of St. John's United Church conducted t he funeral service on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock and i nterment made in Chesley cemetery.

"The Chesley Enterprise," Nov. 17, 1932: Mooresburg- What about George Mair or J. A. Christie as a candidat e for councillor in Sullivan's general election on Decembe r 5th? Seems to your cor. that a Mooresburg man hasn't sa t with the assembled wisdom in the old legislative stone ha ll since W. J. Moore was reeve in 1905 and 1906. If this i s not right for your scribe from the 8th will surely set u s right.
