William "Kirk" MOORE(b. Abt Jul 1867, d. 24 Oct 1891)
Note: ........................................................... . .......... ..... "The Chesley Enterprise" Thursday, Oct . 29th, 1891 Found Dead in His Bed- No death under sadder circumstances ever occurred in Ch esley than that of the late Kirk W. Moore. On Friday eveni ng he was down town making some purchases and appeared in h is usual health. Having work to do in the office at the sta tion he went up and attended to it remaining at his post ti ll after the 10:49 train came in. After locking up the sta tion he came home and went to bed, asking his folk to wak e him early in the morning. In the morning when his littl e sister rapped at the bedroom door she was surprised at he aring no response to her repeated knocks, and she promptl y called her mother who hastily went up to his room and sho ok him, but imagine the distressed mother's feelings on fin ding him quite stiff. He was dead. No maternal or paterna l effort or doctor's skill could arouse him from the slee p of death into which he had fallen. About six o'clock Kir k must still have been living for he put the bed clothes ov er his little brother who slept with him and who was awak e at the time. The struggle must have been short. Heart fa ilure is supposed to have been the cause of his death. A s soon as the sad occurence became known through the villag e, the villagers were horrified at the sad event and durin g the entire day a stream of sympathetic friends called o n the sorrowing family. The funeral was postponed till Tue sday at 10 o'clock in order that his sister from Toronto an d his brother from Guelph might be home to see him. In ord er to show their esteem for their departed friend, the youn g men of the village procured a beautiful floral wreath for m Owen Sound to place on his coffin. The yong ladies of th e village made a wreath for the same purpose. It was a love ly as the one sent from Owen Sound. The top of the coffi n was almost covered with flowers. The funeral was very la rge, Rev. Mr. Moss and Rev. Mr. Perrie conducting the servi ces. The relatives of the young man have the sympathy of t he entire village and vicinity, who deeply feel for the fam ily having lost a loved one so suddenly. Kirk was respecte d and honored by all who knew him for his sterling qualitie s and nobility of character.
Died- Moore - In Chesley on Saturday Oct. 24th, Kirk W. Moo re, aged 24 years, 3 months, 25 days. .................................. .......................... .......... ....
