In trying to research my ancestors Simeon PEARCE and Elizabeth SIMMONS, parents of Rebecca PEARCE RAYMOND WILLIAMS, I have come across others with the name Simeon PIERCE. This article inventories them, as it is helpful in matching references to Simeon PEARCE. I've also included a table of Revolutionary War veterans named PIERCE that I investigated for connections to my Simeon.

27 Jan 1766 My ancestor, Simeon PEARCE born in or of Little Compton, Newport, Rhode Island. He is the son of James PEARCE and Sarah SIMMONS of Little Compton, Newport, Rhode Island. I think the references to Simon PEARCE born 26 Jan 1766 and Simeon PEARCE born 27 Jan 1764 are incorrect dates to this same Simeon PEARCE. I don't think there was another child named Simon born on one of these alternate dates. I take 1766 as the correct birth year from the 1850 census.

 "Pierce, Simeon. Private, Capt. Samuel Clark's co., in a detachment from Col. Barnabas Sears's regt.; enlisted July 18, 1781; discharged Nov. 2, 1781; service, 3 mos. 21 days, “up the Mohawk River,” including 5 days (100 miles) travel home; regiment raised for 3 months. Roll sworn to in Berkshire Co." (Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors in the War of the Revolution, Secretary of the Commonwealth, 1896.)

 Simeon PIERCE of Merrillville is born. He died 1 Mar 1897. He is buried in the Merrillville Cemetery in Merrillville, Ross Township, Lake County, Indiana on Old County Road 330 (73 Avenue). Amanda F. PIERCE, wife of Simeon PIERCE was born 14 June 1816 and died 19 Dec 1861. She is buried in the same cemetery. (website)

 "Until 1836, the Ionia area was still administered as a township of Kent County. In 1837, Michigan finally achieved statehood. The capital originally in Detroit was moved to Lansing. A U.S. Land Office was established in Ionia County Seat. Those wishing to purchase land in the north central area of Michigan, came to Ionia to have the papers drawn up. He must marry "Clorinda" between 1845 and the 1850 census because Simeon PIERCE of Ionia county is living with Moses Dean and Clorinda in the 1850 census.

There is a Simeon PIERCE in Lyons, Ionia, Michigan that might be our Simeon. The Simeon PIERCE of Ionia County is 84 years old, as expected, and born in Rhode Island. Our Simeon had a niece, Clarinda PEARCE, daughter of Simeon's brother Ichabod PEARCE, born 23 Mar 1795 and Simeon PIERCE of Ionia County is living with Clorinda DEAN, age 55. However, closer inspection shows our Clarinda PEARCE died 12 Jun 1864 (likely in Rhode Island) while Clorinda DEAN was born 17 Oct. 1794 and died 28 June 1871. Nelson LOOMIS is the husband of Priscilla DEEN, daughter of Moses DEEN/DEAN and Susan SWARTS. Nelson was born 28 Jul 1823 in Dundee, New York and Priscilla was born 21 Feb 1829 in Himrod, Yates County, New York. (Ancestral File).

This indenture made the Twelfth Day of May in the year of or Lord, one thousand eight
hundred and fifty two between Simeon PIERCE and Amanda F. his wife of the town of New
Buffalo, County of Berrien, State of Michigan of the first part and Kenny W. Pike of the city of
Chicago, County of Cook, State of Illinois of the second part. Witnesseth that the said? party of
the first part for and in consideration of the sum of thirty dollars to them in hand paid
by the said party of the second part the receipt whereof is hereby confessed and acknowledged
both by these presents grant bargain sell sermise? release, alien and confirm unto the said
party of the second part and to his heirs and assigns forever all of the following described (?)
lots part & parcel of land to wit: Lot six (6) in Block Eleven (11) Block two hundred
seven (207) and Block two hundred and eighty three (283) all in the village of New Buffalo
County of Berrien, State of Michigan, together with all and include? the equipment? and
appurtenances thereunto belonging in anywise appertaining. To Have and To Hold the said
premises as described with the appurtenances unto the said party of the second part and that land? and
forever. And the said party of the first part for themselves, their heirs, administrators and assigns
& covenant grant bargain and agree to and with the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns
that at the time of the insealing ? And delivery of these presents they are well sized of the above granted
premises in fee simple: that they are free from all incumbrances whatever, and that they will and
his heirs, executors administrators and assigns shall Warrant and Defend the same against all
lawful claims whatsoever. In witness whereof the said party of the first part have hereunto set hand

 Clarrinda, wife of M. Deen dies. She was born 17 Oct. 1794 and was interred at the East Plains cemetery, Clinton Co., Michigan. (FHL Film 927480, p. 15.) Simeon's niece was born 23 Mar 1794, so this is not his niece.

In the 1880 US Census, Simeon PIERCE in Valparaiso is listed as 66 years of age (born abt. 1814), birthplace NY, retired merchant, father's and mother's birthplace both CT ( FamilySearch.org). Since our Simeon was born in Rhode Island, this may not be Simeon PIERCE, Jr., son of our Simeon.

Simeon Pierce of New Salem in the county of Hampshire, housewright, sells land in New Salem to Warren Hous on 6 December 1808. (Franklin County, Massachusetts Deeds, vol. 25, approximate dates 1807-1809, p. 713. FHL Film 893813.) According to Vital records..., above, Simeon was a grantee in 1800. Can we find that record? And he was a grantor from 1809 to 1824. Can we find those records? If this is the Simeon PEARCE that moves to New York, maybe the succeeding deeds would indicate that. Also, check the 1790 census records of Stephen PIERCE to see if the Stephen of New Salem could possibly be our Stephen, brother of our Simeon PEARCE.

In the 1800 census in Poultney, Rutland, VT, the Simeon PEARCE household contained 1 male less than 10; 1 male, 10-15; 2 males, 16-25, 1 male, 45 and older; 1 female, 10-15; 1 female, 16-25; and 1 female older than 45. This couple is older than our Simeon and Elizabeth, who we suspect to be 34 years old, late 20s, respectively.

Since our Simeon and wife were born in Rhode Island, not Connecticut, this may not be Simeon PIERCE, Jr., son of our Simeon.
