This web-book reproduces portions of Gillette's Map of Oneida County, New York, From actual Surveys under the direction of J. H. French, by S. N. Beers, D. J. Lake, & F. W. Beers; John E. Gillette, publisher, 1858.
Unfortunately, I only had access to a microfiche copy of the map (from the LC G&M Division land ownership maps published by the Library of Congress). When using a digital camera to digitize off a microfiche viewer, large amounts of distortion are introduced, uniform lighting is nearly impossible, and on-screen reflections are plentiful. But to the genealogical researcher, online access to the images is of great worth, so I offer them to the genealogical community, flawed as they are.
As the focus of my study is the Simeon Pearce/Pierce family of Marshall from 1790 to 1840, I magnified and digitized areas of the map near there. The task of doing the entire county was simply too great. To view the microfiche image for yourself, see Fiche 6079762 at the Salt Lake Family History Library. I don't know, but assume microfiche can are available at their branch libraries as well.
I have been asked in the past how to print pages in my web-books that are too wide for an 8.5 x 11 inch piece of paper. I don't know of any good, easy way. Internet Explorer users could try Page Setup with Orientation set to landscape, margins set as close to zero as possible, and headers/footers set blank. But since clipping may still occur, it may be more advisable to save just the map image to a file, import it into a word processor or graphics program, size it to fit the page, and then print.
