M. T. "DICK" NEWMAN, eleventh child of John and Nancy Newman, was born January 25, 1907. When J. T. was born, the town of Mt. Enterprise had just been established and his father decided to call him M.T. after the town of Mt. Enterprise. Later his mother gave him the name of Dick, and with time the name Dick stuck. Dick attended the Mt. Union School and worked on the family farm. He decided that farm life was not for him and on Good Friday, in the year 1932, he left the farm to find work in Ft. Worth, Texas. He held various type of jobs, some with the wages of $1.50 for 12 hours work. Later he attended business college to try to improve himself. There were the deep depression years and jobs were hard to find and keep. After being out of work for sometime he decided to return to the family. Shortly after his return in 1934, he married, age 27, a Mt. Union School Teacher, MAMIE MOODY, age 25, on August 22, 1934. Mamie was born September 1, 1906. Dick and his bride moved to Henderson, Texas, where he ran a grocery store and Mamie continued to teach school He then purchased 22 acres of land in Rusk County outside of Henderson and built a house. Dick entered the service in World War II and went through basic training in Ft. Warren, Wyoming. He later transferred to Ft. Stockton in California before being shipped to Hawaii, in July 1942. In Hawaii, he spent the remainder of the war packing supplies for troops to fight in the Islands. He attained the rank of Buck Sergeant. He returned to the states and was discharged at Miami Beach, Florida on September 26, 1945. While Dick was in the service, Mamie had been teaching school in the Rusk County School District at Concord and Henderson. Mamie died shortly after childbirth, age 40, August 29, 1946. Mamie is buried at Concord Cemetery, near Garrison, Texas. Dick then married MARGARET CARAWAY which ended in divorce after six years. He married the third time LYNN DAVENPORT on July 12, 1960. Lynn died of cancer on November 25, 1974. Lynn is buried in Hopewell Cemetery, Tyler, Texas. Dick married on February 23, 1977, age 70, BETTY LEE GRIGGS, age 49. Betty was born August 11, 1928. Dick died on August 21, 1990 and his body was cremated and his ashes are at rest at the grave site of his parents in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Garrison, Texas.

Austin University, Nacogdoches, Texas and majored in Physical Education. Terry is Jailer at the Rusk County Jail, Henderson, Texas. To this union BRANDY NEWMAN was born March 5, 1974.
