WILLIAM "BILL" ALBERT NEWMAN, ninth child of John and Nancy Newman, was born May 1, 1902. Like his older brothers preceding him, bill worked on the family farm in his early years. He tried farming for a while then bought a Dairy in the community of Cedar Bluff, near Garrison. Bill, age 28, married VELMA SCARBROUGH, age 25, on March 4, 1930. Velma was born September 8, 1905. In the early 1960's he bought a Grocery Store on Highway 59 in Appleby, Texas. Here he stayed until his retirement. He died, age 71, November 3, 1973. Velma died, age 76, March 1, 1982. Both are buried at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Garrison, Texas.

1. HELEN LAVERNE NEWMAN, first child of Bill and Velma Newman, was born August 9, 1931. She is a 1950 graduate of Garrison High School. She attended Nacogdoches Business College. Laverne, age 20, married B.D. OLDS, age 28, on July 21, 1952. He was born September 1, 1924. B. D. served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He died, age 60 on April 16, 1985.

To this union VERNON RAY COLE, JR., born April 27, 1991, VINCENT JEROME COLE, born December 10, 1992 and SHANIKA CHANTEL COLE, born January 18, 1994.
c. SANDRA ESTELLE OLDS, third child of Laverne and B. D. Olds, was born December 18, 1968. She married DONALD GLENN SEPULVADO on June 19, 1987. They were divorced and she married KEITH LABRUNN YARBROUGH and they also divorced. Sandra had LAKENDRA CHERE'L OLDS, born May 1, 1990.
2. KENNETH NEWMAN, second child of Bill and Velma Newman, was born May 26, 1933. He married, age 21, VIVIAN JOYCE, age 20, on December 11, 1954. She was born February 18, 1934.

She later attended Business College and went on to complete studies in Cosmetology School. She is employed at Stephen F. Austin State University, Nacogdoches, Texas. She married, age 19, DON ALLEN BARTON, age 22, in 1963.
