DANIEL HENRY NEWMAN

DANIEL HENRY NEWMAN, third son of Martin and Flora Ann Newman, was born November 16, 1826 in Tallapoosa County, Alabama. At age 21, he married AZANY HARDIN, age 42, on October 26, 1847. Anzany's father was ELIJAH HARDIN. No other trace of her family has been found. She was listed in the 1850 census of Tallapoosa County, Alabama. Her date of death and place of burial are unknown, but it is believed she died in childbirth. According to records she would have been near the age of 45 when SARAH ANN NEWMAN was born.

Daniel Henry arrived in the Appleby Settlement, Nacogdoches County, Texas in the late summer or early fall of 1858. This is marked by the birth of a son, JOHN FRANKLIN NEWMAN on October 31, 1858. On January 20, 1862, Daniel Henry purchased 209 acres of farmland for $313.50. He paid $200 down and the remaining balance one year later plus 10% interest per annum. It is believed that he and his family worked the farm long before his purchase of the land.

Daniel Henry married second time ISADORE G. YARBROUGH, age 17, on December 28, 1852. Isadore was born July 11, 1835 in Coosa County, Alabama. He and Isadore both came to Texas in 1857. At the outbreak of the Civil War Daniel enlisted in 31st Texas Regiment, Company G. He rejected his pension application from the service. Daniel and Isadore spent the remainder of her years on the farm in Appleby, Texas. The exact date of her death is not known, however, a monument has been placed at her burial place indicating her death in the year 1899. She is buried at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Garrison, Texas. The Appleby house of Daniel Henry Newman still stands today. When he built the home, it had stair on the outside of the structure . Since that time, the house has been remodeled and the stairs have been enclosed. He continued to farm the land until he sold the property for $225.00 and on January 7, 1899 he moved to Cushing, Texas where he worked as a mail delivery man.

Daniel Henry married the third time to ELLA J. CHILDERS, age 34, on January 5, 1899. Ella was born March 16, 1865. To this union no children were born. Ella died May 27, 1910, age 45, and is buried in Redland Cemetery, Douglas, Nacogdoches County, Texas. Daniel at the age of 82, died August 15, 1908 and is buried in Redland Cemetery, Douglas, Nacogdoches County, Texas.

NOTE: ELLA HAD THREE BROTHERS; SAM, CHARLES & ???. ALL WERE SURNAMED YARBROUGH. IT IS NOT KNOWN IF ELLA CHILDERS WAS A WIDOW WHEN SHE MARRIED DANIEL OR IF SHE WAS RELATED TO ISADORE, DANIEL HENRY'S PREVIOUS WIFE.

SARAH ANN NEWMAN, daughter of Daniel Henry and Anzany Newman, was born September 9, 1850 in Tallapoosa County, Alabama. Sarah, age 18, married DAVID W. STRAHAN, age 46, on August 11, 1868. David was born in 1822. He was married previously to EMILY MUCKLEROY. He was a farmer in Tennessee before settling in Texas. David Strahan was a member of the Confederate Sates of America, Company B, 3rd Brigade, Texas State Troops. His parents, Mathew and Elizabeth Strahan were originally an Irish Linen Salesman for a company in his homeland, Northern Ireland. Mathew Strahan came to America in 1815 to sell linen. He returned to Ireland and then returned to American with his wife Elizabeth and their daughter Sarah W. Strahan. Mathew died in 1848 at the age of 53 in Nacogdoches. Elizabeth appears in the 1850 census of Texas but does on appear in the 1860 census, placing her death between 1850 and 1860. Mathew and Elizabeth are both buried in an unmarked grave at Engledow Cemetery, Melrose, Nacogdoches County, Texas.

a..  ELIZABETH STRAHAN, first child of David and Emily Muckleroy Strahan, was born in 1857.  She married GEORGE W. MANNING.  

The children of George W. and Elizabeth Strahan Manning:

4)   GEORGE W. 'MIKE" MANNING, fourth child of George and Elizabeth Manning was born in 1877.  He married MINNIE BURNAMAN.  To this union JAMES A. born 1900, LIZZIE and LOIS MANNING were born.

5)   FRONIE MANNING, fifth child of George and Elizabeth Manning was born in 1878. She married SAM A. MILLS.  Sam was born in 1876 and died in 1940.  To this union HOPSON, BLANCHARD, RAYFORD, RETHAS and ZERATH MILLS were born.  

6)   MATTIE MANNING, sixth child of George and Elizabeth Manning, was born in 1882 and died in 1958.  She married ROBERT L. KNOX.  No other data available.

7)   SUSIE MANNING, seventh child of George and Elizabeth Manning, was born in 1884.  She married HENRY RAMBLIN.   No other data available.

c.  MATHEW STRAHAN, third child of David W. and Emily Strahan, was born in 1859.  He married NANCY JANE SPRINGER.   Shortly after the death of his mother and his  father married Sarah Ann Newman, Mathew went to live with his Uncle Thoma Strahan because of the stress caused by his father marrying a woman young enough to be is sister.   Mathew died in 1944.  .

1)   FLORENCE STRAHAN, first child of Mathew and Nancy Strahan, was born in 1881.  She married THOMAS B. SPRINGER.  No other data available

2)   FRANCES STRAHAN, third child of Mathew and Nancy Strahan.   She married GEORGE CHALKER.  To this unon CHRISTINE CHALKER was born.  She married second time to JIM NEELY.   To this union GLINNIE NEELY was born.  She married third time to WADE FREDERICK.

SARAH ANN NEWMAN, married David W. Strahan on August 11, 1868.  David died, age 72, and is buried at Mobley Cemetery. Sarah died September 6, 1900, age 50, and is buried in Shady Grove Cemetery, Nacogdoches, Texas

DAVID S. STRAHAN

a.  DAVID S. STRAHAN, first child of David and Sarah Strahan, was born March 14, 1871. He married EMMA DENNIS and twelve children were born. David died on December 4, 1940 and is buried at Shady Grove Cemetery, Nacogdoches, Texas.

a)  FLORIS DELORES JAMISON, first child of Tobe and Bertha Jamison, was born in 1920.  She married HAROLD DEWAILLEY. To this union WANDA LYNN DEWALLEY was born.

b)   MOZELLE JAMISON, second child of Tobe and Bertha Jamison, was born in 1921.  She married ROBERT K. KNOTT. To this union MARY MOZELLE KNOTT was born.

c)   DOYLE BERTRAM JAMISON, third child of Tobe and Bertha Jamison, was born in 1923.  He married MARY MERCEDES YOUNG. 

d)   WAYNE HOLLIS JAMISON, fourth child of Tobe and Bertha Jamison, was born in 1925.  He married LOIS LANGSTON.

f)   BETTIE JO JAMISON, sixth child of Tobe and Bertha Jamison, was born in 1930.  She married DERWOOD LOVELL.

g)  GLORIA JEAN JAMISON, seventh child of Tobe and Bertha Jamison, was born in 1932.  She married  ROBERT WAYNE PERKINS.

h)   DONNELL JAMISON, eighth child of Tobe and Bertha Jamison, was born in 1935.  He married JOYCE HARDY.

i)   LAWRENCE ELWYN JAMISON, ninth child of Tobe and Bertha Jamison, was born in 1937.  He married BETTY LOU SIMPSON.

4)  DELMA STRAHAN, fourth child of  David S. and Emma Strahan, was born in 1903 and died about 1937.  She married C.B. EVANS.

5)  CLAUDE STRAHAN, sixth and twin child of David S. and Emma Strahan, was born in 1904.  He died in 1904.

6)   CLYDE STRAHAN, sixth and twin of child of David S. and Emma Strahan, was born 1904.  He married VERTIS BAKER. He died in 1981.

a)  MAURNICE STRAHAN,  first child of Clyde and Vertis Strahan, was born in 1924.  She married LLOYD JACKSON who was born in 1922 and died in 1991.  To this union JUDY and JEANNIE JACKSON were born.  Maurnice married second time to LOWELL CONKLIN.

b)  TRUMAN STRAHAN, second child of Clyde and Vertis Strahan.   He married first time JUANITA MARSH and second time BETTY PITTS.

7)  GEORGIA WILMA STRAHAN, seventh child of  David S. and Emma  Strahan, was born in 1905.  She married ROBERT L. DOSS.  He died about 1997.

8)  PEARL LEE STRAHAN, eighth and twin of David S. and Emma Strahan, was born in 1907 and died in1907.

9)  EARL LEE STRAHAN, ninth and twin of  David S. and Emma Strahan, was born in 1907.  He married ALTA ESTELLA TAYLOR, born 1913 and died in 1984.  Earl died in 1990

The children of Earl and Estella Taylor Strahan:

a)  ROGER DAVID STRAHAN, child of Earl and Estella Taylor Strahan, was born in 1948.  He married PAULA MICHELE MAHAN.   To this union TILLMAN BRADLEY, 1968, VICKI ELAINE, 1970, and DAVID ALTON LEE 1975 STRAHAN were born.

10)  ROY CLEON "BILL" STRAHAN, tenth child of David S. and Emma Strahan, was born in 1909.  He married OLA "LIL" ZERATHA, born 1912. To this union  SARAH, ROY AND SUE STRAHAN were born.

11)   HOMER SAMITH "PETE" STRAHAN, eleventh child of David S. and Emma Strahan, was born 1911.  He married LORENE W. MILLS, born 1912.  To this union HILBERT RAY, 1943, SANDRA FAY, 1943,  and SHARON 1947, STRAHAN were born.

12)   LESSIE MARIE STRAHAN, twelth child of David and Emma Strahan, was born 1914.  She married LEONARD HOWELL MITCHAM.  To this union GAIL MARIE and EMMA YVONNE were born.

THOMAS STRAHAN

c. THOMAS STRAHAN, second child of David and Sarah Strahan, was born May 11, 1873. He married ELIZA JANE FORBUS.  She was born in 1878.. Thomas died April 23, 1951, age 78.  She died in 1910.

The children of Thomas and Eliza Jane Strahan:

c.   SAMUEL STRAHAN, fourth child of David and Sarah Strahan, was born in 1875 and died at birth. He is buried at Mobley Cemetery, Nacogdoches, Texas.

d.   HARVEY B. STRAHAN, fifth child of David and Sarah Strahan, was born April 16, WARR, 1877. He married MISSOURI E. WARR, possibly was a sister to BUDD who married Harvey's sister Nancy. Family records show Harvey was married five times. Harvey died December 18, 1969, age 92, and is buried at Shady Grove Cemetery, Nacogdoches, Texas.

e. MARTHA STRAHAN, sixth child of David and Sarah Strahan, was born July 23, 1879. Martha married MATTHEW B. KERR. To this union L. B. KERR was born February 13, 1899. Martha died, age 42, July 31, 1912.

 

f. NANCY SNOW STRAHAN, seventh child of David and Sarah Strahan, was born in 1875. She married BUDD WARR, brother to Missouri E. Warr who married Nancy's brother Harvey. To this union seven children were born. Nancy died January 7, 1966.

g. ELIZA JANE STRAHAN, seventh child of David and Sarah Strahan, was born in 1882 and died at birth.

h. ANZANIA STRAHAN, eighth child of David and Sarah Strahan, was born March 5, 1883. She married MACK GILLIS and ten children were born. Anzania died September 13, 1936, age 53.

The children of Mack and Anzanie Gillis:

i. YLANTIE "LANTIE" STRAHAN, ninth child of David and Sarah Strahan, was born March 13, 1886. She died May 6, 1945, age 59, and is buried in Shady Grove Cemetery, Nacogdoches, Texas.

j. JIMMY STRAHAN, tenth child of David and Sarah Strahan, was born in 1889 and died at birth.

k. ANGELIE AZLEE STRAHAN, eleventh child of David and Sarah Strahan, was born December 31, 1890. She married AARON GILES STRAHAN, her first cousin. To this union four children were born. She died February 19, 1973, age 83.

ANGELINA NEWMAN

ANGELINA NEWMAN, daughter of Daniel Henry and Isadore Newman, was born January 1, 1854 in Coosa County, Alabama. Angelina, age 21, married JACOB "JAKE" DUCK, age 22, on February 17, 1875. Jake was born November 23, 1853. He died at the age of 81, November 15, 1934. Angelina, age 69, died February 17, 1923. Both are buried in Friendship Cemetery, Cushing, Texas. To this union JOHN, A. B. and EMMA OLA DUCK were born December 27, 1882, 1884 and February 5, 1892. John Duck died, age 69, October 15, 1951. A. B. Duck died, age 36, in 1920. Emma Ola Duck died, age 76, September 7, 1968.. All are buried in Friendship Cemetery, Cushing, Texas.

WYLANTY "LANTIE" NEWMAN

WYLANTY "LANTIE" NEWMAN, daughter of Daniel Henry and Isadore Newman, was born September 7, 1856 in Alabama. Lantie, age 23, married JAMES V. RUSSELL, age 29, on June 4, 1879. She died, age 24, on March 15, 1880 due to complications of childbirth. James, age 68, died on October 15, 1918. Both are buried at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Nacogdoches County, Texas. To this union DANIEL HENRY RUSSELL "D. H", was born March 5, 1880. After his mother's death, he went to live with his Uncle John Franklin Newman. D. H. was a Chaplain in the U.S. Navy during World War I. He died May 9, 1960 in Houston, Texas, at the age of 80. He is buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Nacogdoches County, Texas.
