     Cornelius Curtis married Edney Holt, daughter of William Holt Jr. and Rhoda Powell, on 24 April 1843 at Hinds County, Mississippi, The liscense was issued April 24, 1843 and the bondsman was P. H. McGee.^2,3 He died before 1848 in Hinds County, MS.¹

Upon his passing,an article was written about him in the local newspaper, 'The Red Oak Leaf' entitled, 'A Legend in Ovilla -- Fred Curtis gone.' The article closes with the following statement:
