     John Gilbert Carswell was born on 7 February 1831 at Wilkinson County, Georgia.¹ He was the son of William Edward Carswell and Elizabeth Jane Gilbert.¹ John Gilbert Carswell married Mary Jane Brown on 4 November 1857 at Wilkinson County, Georgia.¹ John Gilbert Carswell died on 12 May 1895 at age 64.¹

     John Iverson Carswell was born circa 1859 at Wilkinson County, Georgia.¹ He was the son of John Gilbert Carswell and Mary Jane Brown.¹ John Iverson Carswell married Clara Chrisman circa 1886 at Georgia or Texas.¹

     Mary Elizabeth Carswell was born on 18 October 1894 at Georgia.¹ She was the daughter of Franklin Lamar Carswell Sr. and Ettie Mills.¹ Mary Elizabeth Carswell married John Carl Ewing circa 1913 at Georgia.¹ Mary Elizabeth Carswell died on 23 March 1968 at Georgia at age 73.¹

     Matthew Carswell was born on 17 February 1768 at Northern Ireland.^3,2 He married Sarah Martin, daughter of John Martin Sr. and Jane Hutchinson, in 1787 at Upper Burke County, Georgia.^3,2 Matthew Carswell died on 31 August 1829 at Wilkinson County, Georgia, at age 61 He died of Heart Failure.^1,4,2 He was buried after 31 August 1829 at Carswell Plantation Cemetery about .25 miles from New Providence Baptist Church, Wilkinson County, Georgia.^5,4,2
     Matthew Carswell came to America from Ireland with his parents when he was only four years of age in 1772. He grew to adulthood on his father's plantations, first in Richmond County, GA and later in what became Burke County. At the age of 21, in 1787, he married Sarah Martin, the daughter of John and Jane Hutchinson Martin who had migrated from County Antrim, NIR about 1754 and who had acquired land in St. George's Parish, which became Burke County.
After their marriage, Matthew and Sarah lived in Upper Burke County near where John and Jane Martin lived. This was in a remote section of Georgia and in 1788 a number of landowners, including Matthew Carswell and John Martin, petitioned to be allowed to pay their taxes in Rocky Comfort, in what is now Jefferson County, instead of Waynesboro which was 30 or 40 miles away on very bad roads. In 1796 this area became part of the newly formed Jefferson County.
Matthew and Sarah lived in this area for some 20 years. All of their children were almost certainly born there; the first five in Upper Burke County and the last four in Jefferson County. Evidently they prospered while there as the Jefferson County tax rolls of 1808 shows that Matthew had 700 acres of land and 12 slaves. In 1805 Matthes received a land-grant of 200 acres in Washington County, where his brothers-in-law, John, Jr, and James Martin, had received grants in 1785. Matthews grant was bounded "on all sides by vacant land," and was sligned by Governor John Milleddge on August 27, 1805.
In 1802 and 1804 treaties with the Creek Indians opened up new land which was distributed through land lotteries in 1805 and 1807. It seems that Matthew acquired large land holdings in the Turkey Creek District on both sides of the boundary of what became Wilkinson and Twiggs Counties.
In 1809 he and his family relocated to Wilkinson County. In 1810 he was a Commissioner of the Wilkinson County Academy and represented the County in the Georgia State legislature in 1814-15. He was also County Commissioner and was responsible for determining the route of the Stage Road from Macon to Savannah. Later the roadbed of the Macon and Atlantic Railroad was built parallel with the old Stage Road he had laid out.^1,4

     Matthew Hutchinson Carswell was born on 23 October 1804 at Jefferson County, Georgia.^1,2 He was the son of Matthew Carswell and Sarah Martin.² Matthew Hutchinson Carswell died on 17 October 1808 at Jefferson County, Georgia, at age 3.^1,2

     Mattie M. Carswell was born on 2 September 1869 at Georgia.¹ She was the daughter of William Edward Carswell II and Anna Talulah Chapman.¹ Mattie M. Carswell married William A. O'Daniel circa 1888 at Georgia.¹ Mattie M. Carswell died on 24 March 1949 at Twiggs County, Georgia, at age 79.¹

     Maureen Carswell was born on 14 September 1912 at near Kerens, Henderson County, Texas.¹ She was the daughter of Rufus John Carswell Sr. and Cecil Swanson.¹ Maureen Carswell died on 14 October 1974 at Texas at age 62.¹

     Nancy Carswell was born on 4 October 1791 at Upper Burke County, Georgia.^1,2 She was the daughter of Matthew Carswell and Sarah Martin.² Nancy Carswell married Simmons Fowler in June 1809 at Jefferson County, Georgia. They had two sons.^1,2 Nancy Carswell married William Waters after 1813.¹

     Rufus John Carswell Jr. was born in 1916 at Kerens, Henderson County, Texas.¹ He was the son of Rufus John Carswell Sr. and Cecil Swanson.¹ Rufus John Carswell Jr. died in October 1941 at Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas, He was killed in an automobile accident.¹

     Rufus John Carswell Sr. was born in 1887 at Georgia or Texas.¹ He was the son of John Iverson Carswell and Clara Chrisman.¹ Rufus John Carswell Sr. married Cecil Swanson on 27 September 1911 at Athens, Henderson County, Texas.¹ Rufus John Carswell Sr. died in 1930 at Macon, Bibb County, Georgia, He died while visiting family. He was living near Kerens, Henderson County, TX.¹

     Samuel Martin Carswell was born on 23 March 1798 at Jefferson County, Georgia.^1,2 He was the son of Matthew Carswell and Sarah Martin.² Samuel Martin Carswell married Jane Martin Manson in 1821 at Wilkinson County, Georgia. They were the parents of eight children.^1,2 Samuel Martin Carswell died on 9 November 1857 at Wilkinson County, Georgia, at age 59.^1,2 He was buried after 9 November 1857 at New Providence Baptist Church Cemetery, Wilkinson County, Georgia. His epitapth reads: "He was a member of New Providence Church eighteen years and a Deacon for fourteen years. Though very modest and retiring, he was one of its strongest pillars and brightest lights. To know him was to love him."³

     Sarah Carswell was born on 23 March 1801 at Jefferson County, Georgia.^1,2 She was the daughter of Matthew Carswell and Sarah Martin.² Sarah Carswell married Isaac Brown circa 1820 at Wilkinson County, Georgia.^1,2 Sarah Carswell died before 1838 at Wilkinson County, Georgia.^1,2

     Stewart Gilbert Carswell Sr. was born on 25 October 1892 at Edison, Georgia, He was living in Abbeville, GA in 1973.¹ He was the son of Franklin Lamar Carswell Sr. and Ettie Mills.¹ Stewart Gilbert Carswell Sr. married Adelaide Algia Sarman on 20 July 1930 at Georgia.¹

     Thomas Alexander Carswell was born circa 1890 at Georgia.¹ He was the son of Franklin Lamar Carswell Sr. and Ettie Mills.¹ Thomas Alexander Carswell died on 22 June 1917 at Georgia.¹

     William Carswell was born circa 1860 at Georgia.¹ He was the son of John Gilbert Carswell and Mary Jane Brown.¹ William Carswell married Hattie Lee Webb circa 1890 at Abbeville, Wilcox County, Georgia.¹ William Carswell died in January 1907 at Abbeville, Wilcox County, Georgia.¹

     William Edward Carswell was born on 30 April 1807 at Jefferson County, Georgia.¹ He was the son of Matthew Carswell and Sarah Martin.¹ William Edward Carswell married Elizabeth Jane Gilbert, daughter of John Gilbert and Nancy Martin, on 11 February 1830 at Wilkinson County, Georgia.^2,3 William Edward Carswell died on 27 August 1887 at Wilkinson County, Georgia, at age 80.⁴ He was buried after 27 August 1887 at New Providence Baptist Church Cemetery, Wilkinson County, Georgia.⁴

     William Edward Carswell II was born on 6 November 1836 at Wilkinson County, Georgia.¹ He was the son of William Edward Carswell and Elizabeth Jane Gilbert.² William Edward Carswell II married Anna Talulah Chapman on 16 December 1863 at Georgia.¹ William Edward Carswell II died on 17 December 1901 at Twiggs County, Georgia, at age 65.¹
     On 21 August 1861 W. E. Carswell, II became First Lieutenant of Company I, the Carswell Guards, 3rd. Georgia regiment, CSA and on 15 March 1863 He was promoted to Captain. Though wounded three times, he served throughout the war. He and his family moved from Wilkinson County, Georgia to Twiggs County in 1876.¹

     William Rufus Carswell was born on 26 November 1881 at Georgia.¹ He was the son of William Edward Carswell II and Anna Talulah Chapman.¹ William Rufus Carswell married Kathleen M. Jones on 24 November 1909 at Georgia.¹ William Rufus Carswell died on 26 November 1911 at Georgia at age 30.¹

     William Rufus Carswell III was born on 2 August 1937 at Bainbridge, Georgia.¹ He died on 20 December 1952 at Bainbridge, Georgia, at age 15.¹

     Winston Edward Carswell M. D. was born in 1899.¹ He was the son of Iverson Chapman Carswell and Stella Allmon.¹ Winston Edward Carswell M. D. married Mary Lena Ballard in 1928.¹ Winston Edward Carswell M. D. died on 5 December 1975 at Dallas, Dallas County, Texas.¹
     He practiced Medicene in Dallas, Texas for many years.¹

     Amanda Carter was born in 1822 in Warren County, GA.¹ Amanda Carter was the daughter of Wiley Carter Sr. and Ann Ansley.¹

     Amy Lee Carter was born on 4 January 1870.¹ She married Eason Howell Hargis, son of William Abner Hargis and Sarah Drucilla Hargis, on 11 July 1886.² Amy Lee Carter died on 5 January 1898 at age 28.¹
