     John Arthur Roberts II was born on 22 September 1854 at Cabaniss, Monroe County, Georgia.¹ He was the son of Wiley Jones Roberts and Mary Ann Spires.¹ John Arthur Roberts II married Martha Melinda Simmons on 3 December 1874 at Monroe County, Georgia.¹ John Arthur Roberts II died on 25 June 1921 at Monticello, Jasper County, Georgia, at age 66.¹ He was buried after 25 June 1921 at Westview Cemetery, Monticello, Jasper County, Georgia.¹
     The John Arthur Roberts II family mosve from Monroe County, GA to Jasper County, GA in 1896. They are listed in the 1880 Monroe County, GA census and the 1900 and 1910 census for Jasper County. He is listed as a farmer living in a rented home with his wife and children in the 1880 Monroe County census. Ge was a land owner and farmer in the 1900 and 1910 censuses for Jasper County. The courthouse books on deeds list a purchase of lots #11 and #12 in Washington Park in Monticello on December 21, 1912 for the sum of $342.00 (deed book R p41), 165 acres on 10/11/1915 (deed book S p36) for $2000.00 and a purchase/sale of 50 acres east of Public Rd. on 12/14/1904 (deed book N p25) for $300.00 and 1/24/1921 (deed book U p259) for 2140.00 paid over five years. His family sold the 165 acres on 10/26/1936 for $1200. His will is on file in book #15 p160 at the Jasper County courthouse. He left all to his wife and his son Zephaniah Thomas was his executor. He was a man of high character.¹

     John Augustus Roberts was born on 26 May 1900 at Coffee County, Alabama.¹ He was the son of Jeptha Augustus Roberts and Manda Floyd.¹ John Augustus Roberts married Linnie Karlene Jackson circa 1920.¹ John Augustus Roberts died on 1 May 1960 at Columbia, South Carolina, at age 59.¹ He was buried on 5 May 1960 at Elmwood Memorial Cemetery, Columbia, South Carolina.¹
     

Later in life he changed his name to John Augustus Roberts. It is notclear who John Augustus lived with after his mother's death, but we doknow that he was on his own at a very early age. He traveled to MuscleShoals, Alabama while still very young and was taken in by a local familythere. He worked in a saw mill for awhile then later enlisted in theArmy and was stationed at what was then called Camp Jackson nearColumbia, South Carolina. The year of his enlistment and how long heremained in the Army is not known. While on furlough he traveled back tohis father's home in Elba, Alabama and while there was introduced to ayoung girl named Linnie Karlene Jackson. After corresponding by mail andseveral more visits, they were married and returned to live on the Armypost at Camp Jackson until his enlistment was up.¹

     John B. Roberts was born in 1848.¹ He was the son of Joseph William Roberts and Mary Jane Colley.¹

     John Calhoun Roberts was born in September 1850 at Benton (now Calhoun) County, Alabama.¹ He was the son of John Roberts and Mary Delk.¹ John Calhoun Roberts married Mary Ann Van Kirk between 1870 and 1875.¹ John Calhoun Roberts married Georgia Ann Kendrick on 29 December 1898.¹ John Calhoun Roberts died in 1901 at Spanish Fort, Montague County, Texas.¹

In October 1855, John Landers Roberts was a member of the Church atAntioch, Benton County, Alabama. John is mention in the minutes of theMacedonia Baptist Association, of the Primitive faith and order, held on13th, 14th, and 15th. The church minutes were printed in pamphlet formand a copy was kept in the Family Bible.

Note: Terts,he 'Twenty-Seventh Alabama Infantry' was organized and musteredinto Confederate service at Fort Heiman, Tennessee, during the last monthof 1861. Most of the companies, however, had been organized as early asthe pervious July. Soon after being mustered into service theTwenty-Seventh Alabama Infantry was placed on garrison duty at FortDonelson, Tennessee. The majority of the regiment was captured when thatplace fell in February, 1862, under Head's Brigade, B. R. Johnson'sDivision.
Those not captured were primarily officers and men who were in hospitals.In September 1863 the 27th Infantry was reorganized placed underDepartment of Misssissippi and East Louisiana, until Spring of 1864. OnJune 1st, 1864, 27th was consolidated with 35th & 49th InfantryRegiments, under Scott's Brigade, Loring's Division, Stewart's C rps,Army of Tennessee. On April 26, 1865, they surrendered at Bennett'sHouse, Durham Station, N.C. Out of 300 men, probably fewer than 75 menwere members of the 27th Alabama Infantry and a handful from the original27th.

Roberts, respectfully represents to yourhonorable board that he is a resident citizen of Cherokee County, Stateof Alabama, and that he resided in said State on the first day of Januaryin the year 1899. That he enlisted in the service of the State, orConfederate States, as a Private in company B in the 27th Regiment onthe day of August 1861 at Gaylesville in the State of Alabama, That he isnow unable to make a living by manual labor on account of hernia andstiff knee joint; That he is at time filing this application 65 years ofage, and that his post office address is Hurley, Alabama; That he doesnot own property either in his own name, nor that of his wife, to thevalue of four hundred dollars; that his annual income does not exceedfour hundred dollars, and that he has no children upon whom he can dependfor support. Your petitioner files herewith a complete schedule of allthe property owned by himself and wife. In consideration of theforegoing facts, your petitioner asks that his name be placed upon thepension rolls, in the class that your honorable board may adjudge him tobelong, that he may participate in the division of the fund provided forthe relief of Confederate and Alabama soldiers and their widows, by actof the General Assembly approved February 10, 1899.

     John Tate Roberts was the son of Durward Thomas 'Tom' Jr. Roberts and Martha Jane Tate.¹ John Tate Roberts married Karen Lynn Whitehouse.¹

     John W. Roberts was born in 1834.¹ He was the son of Jesse Hancock Roberts and Margaret McCorkle.¹
     

He fought in the Civil War and returned home. Later he moved to HoodCounty, Texas where he died. No other information is known.¹

     Joseph Roberts was born on 4 September 1769 at Granville County, North Carolina.¹ He was the son of Richard Roberts and Elizabeth Lynden Montgomery.² Joseph Roberts married Winifred Eppinger circa 1793 at North Carolina.³ Joseph Roberts married (?) Clarissa in 1820.² Joseph Roberts died on 22 October 1836 at Warren County, Georgia, at age 67.^3,4
     He was a corporal in the Revelutionary War. His will is on file in the Columbia County, GA Will Book H 1803-1821 p 33-37.²
