On October 9, 1769 he signed a grievance petition. On October 11, 1771 he bought land from Edward Almond and Samuel Davis. In 1782 he acquired, by donation from his brother, Samuel, 200 acres of land.1 Thomas Mims left a will on 10 January 1809 at Anson County, North Carolina, His will declares that three of his daughters, Sally, Betsy, and Aggy, were widows. Betsy's husband was Richard Welch, Aggy's was a Crowson, and Sally's was Samuel Ely. Yet Thomas appointed two of his sons-in-law, Richard Welch and Samuel Ely as executors of his will. The question is: If the women were widows how could their husbands be executors?1
