     So far we are at a loss as to who was the father of Margaret McCorkle. There are several McCorkle's listed in the 1820 and 1830 Lincoln County censuses but it is difficult to say which one of them might have been her father.1

McCorkle.2 Margaret McCorkle married an unknown person on 2 November 1825 at Lincoln Parish, Georgia.3,4 Margaret died after f1870 at Milo, Pike County, AL.2 She was buried after 1870 probably in the Spring Hill Cemetery, Spring Hill, Pike County, AL.2
     Margaret McCorkle and Jesse Hancock Roberts immigrated after 1850 to Milo Community, Pike County, Alabama, from Monroe County.5 According to the 1870 census Jesse H. Roberts and Margaret were living in Milo, Pike County, AL; In the 1870 Census for Pike County, Alabama Jesse H. Roberts lived with his wife Margaret in house number 18 in the community of Milo, AL. He was a Farmer with $1,000 in asseset and a real estate valued at $500.00. He is listed as having been born in the state of North Carolina. He was 71 years of age at the time of the census. Margaret was 70 years of age at the time of the census and is listed as having been born in the state of Georgia.1 Records on file in Annual Return Book T p266-7 Lincoln County, GA confirm she is the wife of her two husbands and the mother of Mary Ann Spires who married Wiley Jones Roberts, brother of Jesse H. After her first husband died around 1822 she married Jesse H. Roberts. Her name is Margaret in all of the records except her marriage license to Jesse H. where she used Peggy. A memorial record of William D. Roberts, Margaret's son by Jesse H. Roberts, gives her maiden name as McCorkle (Memorial Record of Alabama p836).2

     Samuel McCorkle was born between 1790 and 1800.1 He was the son of (?) McCorkle.1
     There is no direct proof that Samuel was the brother of Margaret, but there is some very good circumstantial evidence. Samuel was appointed the administrator of Margaret's first husband's estate and gurardian of her daughter, Mary Ann, upon the death of her father. A Samuel McCorkle is listed in the 1830 Monroe County, GA census as a 30-40 year old living with his family. He may have moved to Monroe County along with his sister and her husband, Jesse Roberts, in the 1820's. According to Monroe County, GA court records he ran into financial problems in the 1830's and Jesse Roberts became the guardian of Mary Ann.1
